I will do my best to hurry, but this time of year my social calendar ( hehehe volunteer at the VFW!) is so full.... smile... I willl tryto also show the book I got the pattern from. But if u do a search.. there are so many different patterns, none such as mine have I found online, however. They even have a heart yo yo....
This particular quilt is done all in purples and lavenders, for my 80 y/o mother... her favorite colors!

Good for you! Can't wait to see the pics!

Sweeterthanwine 11-06-2010 11:03 AM

I googles square yoyo quilt and the one I looked at, you sewed the yoyo's to a plain piece of square fabric and then the blocks were sewn together. Neat idea.

bluteddi 11-06-2010 11:58 AM

no, my yo yo's are independent of each other just as normal " round" yo yo's are... but they are square

Where did you get the pattern? I would love to see it. Either that or a picture of your yoyos before you put them into a quilt.

Iluv2quilt 11-06-2010 12:12 PM

Congrats to you!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

My cousin Bessie has a quilt made with square yo-yos. It was started by our grandmother. Aunt Nannie, Bessie's mother, worked on it some. Then, Bessie completed. Bessie uses it on her bed for a bedspread. The oldest squares in the quilt are more than 50 years old. I'm surprised that the idea is new to so many quilters.

littlehud 11-06-2010 07:12 PM

UPDATE****

I found the book I got the originial pattern out of ... ( of course after 3 + yrs... I couldn't remember which of my blocks were dark and which was light... so I just did hodgepodge mix- instead of the dark row/light row.
This is called a McAllister McPuff. I have taken some pic, sorry they are blurred.... these small digitals cameras dont take close ups well.

I'm up to row 5 of zigzaging it together....

book was published in 1995

what it was supposed to look like according to the book

block cut out pattern... sew up the corners, turn right sides out, stuff with a sqaure of batting, then drawstring up like a regular yoyo.... then zigzag together!

Is it done yet, can we see it yet? Maybe just a quick peek?

How about a pic of just a block to partially satisfy our need to see.

lauriejo 11-07-2010 05:26 AM

Okay, I am officially brain dead. I checked this book out of the library a couple months ago and even copied the pattern! Duh

I like the tut you found.......... better. It's a tad more work cutting the things out but the appear to be more SQUARE... :)

Thanks for sharing it.

bluteddi 11-07-2010 10:35 AM

I have seen several out there that just work with a sq piece of fabric.... but with this pattern they seem to come out with a more flat square bottom , thus making it easier to sew together.

Which is what I tend to have because I sit too long reading this forum!

I like the tutorial you found, but I'm self-taught lazy. I hate cutting with scissors since the rotary cutter was born. ***sigh*** Guess it all depends on how much I want it. :-D :-D

bluteddi 11-07-2010 04:01 PM

I dont mind scissor cuts, but I actually did some of the blocks by stacking the fabric and then rotary cutting it.. just have to watch the points...

I'm lazy-self taught too..... I just jumped in with both feet!... everyoen told me "do not do yoyo's they will take u forever" ... I thought... nawwwww they are bigger than most little round yoyo's...well, it did take me forever, but that was dues to health reasons, movings, etc....But I'm already thinking of doing another, now that I think I am settled into one location for a while!!!

It is gorgeous. Looks like it will be nice and comfy. Beautiful job.

Lady Crafter 11-15-2010 07:41 PM

Oh my! That is certainly well worth the wait. It is beautiful. You now need to teach Zipster to handstitch, and you'll be able to cut your time in half!! :D :D
