Thanks Ladies, gonna study the tut here and patient and accurate, something to do the winter while watching the snow fall and temperatures drop, it's only -13 here today.
thanks again. |
Yep, you can do it. And they are so beautiful. As others have said, line them up EXACTLY, get a very sharp blade in and go to town. They are my favs as the fabric does the work.

You might want to check out the tutorials on YouTube also. I have not looked at them there, but feel sure you can find some good ones. Good luck!

You might want to start with four layers and make a 4-patch posey.

It is definitely doable for a beginner. Getting the same pattern (repeatprint) on top of each other is the main thing to do. After that it is just sewing together. I hadn't been quilting very long when I started the one. To me it was easier than the triangle wedge. Good Luck

Yes!!! I no longer pin fabrics together...instead...use heavy thread (button/carpet) to tack my fabrics together...you don't have to worry about moving pins to cut...takes slightly longer, but I've found that my layers stay together better...They're fun to do...and you never know what the block will look like! I taught it at a LQS...and 2 ladies used the same fabric....you wouldn't have known....they were both very different!

I have not made one but it is on my to do list. Thanks for all the great advice. You are all great as usual.

Funny, a OBW was my 4th quilt, too. It was lots of fun and dazzled my family (as in, YOU made that, Mom?). As others have already said, the primary thing is accuracy, so give it the time and attention it needs. It's worth it!

If you're worried about piecing the triangles remember you can also do a 4 patch stack and whack and cut them in squares. You'll have a kaliedoscope look.
My guild has done stack and whacks a few times as a group and they're always a lot of fun. I still have yet to finish any of mine. I can never decide on the layout. I had mine up on my design wall for months. I think the best thing for me would be to not do an all over and turn them in to individual blocks at this point... |
