Is this doable for a beginner?

You really have to pin the layers of fabric EXACTLY on top of each other. I found that to be too tedious for me. Good Luck !!

I think it's doable...it's more precision in the cutting and piecing than most beginner patterns, but definitely doable. Assess your patience factor - are you a rush thru and get the job done kind of piecer? then this might get frustrating for you since it takes a little more time than some more basic patterns....but the results can be amazing. I'd also think about how comfortable you are at using the design wall and having to make layout decisions on your own - this makes you make a lot of your own decisions instead of just following a pattern layout.

it was one of my first quilts I took a class but finished it at home it did not turn out perfect but it looks great and no one knows if it is perfect or not unless you point out your imperfections I would say go for it

I love stack and whack! It was one of my first techniques to try out. Go for it! You will love it. Fabric should be busy but with some space in between (background).

I taught a class on this a couple of times, and had mostly beginners in both classes. I don't think you will have a problem, just don't get in a hurry. I think one of the most important things with this tec. is the pinning, and your 1/4 in. seams. Go for it and have fun!!

As others have said, make sure the layers of fabric are pinned spot on. I have made several stack-and-whacks and did not have difficulties, the first being soon after I started quilting. As my quilting instructor said, "Choose a fabric with multi-colors and even something you consider ugly." It is amazing how the blocks are so different!

Absolutely! Just read AND follow the directions - step by step. They make awesome quilts and are such fun to see them develop! I made one (OBW) as my 4th quilt. Try arranging each block each of the possible ways to get the setting you like most and have FUN!
