I just finished piecing this Star Spin; it's a pattern for a table topper. I'm undecided if I want to add more blocks and borders and make it queen-sized or back it and use it as a table topper. I have a question for either way, hope someone can help.
1: if I decide to make it into a quilt, how do I determine the size of the "inset" blocks in the corners? Do I measure and add seam allowances or is there another way? 2. if I decide to keep it a table topper, can I sandwich top, batting, and backing then sew and turn it right side out? I really don't want to add binding as it would detract from the stripes. Thanks so much for your help! |
beautiful, I'll have to try that pattern.
that is so pretty! I'm not great at the figuring stuff, but if were me, I'd lay it down on paper, make it square by drawing with a ruler, then cut out the missing area and add seam allowances. I have to do that when ever I need to add things.

I love your colors! Either way it will be beautiful!
wow is that beautiful
IT IS GORGEOUS , LOVE FABRIC CHOICES WHAT. WOULD YOU GET MORE USE OUT OF ?That may help you decide.
That is beautiful
If I were making into a quilt, I *might* just appliqué it on...
That is one gorgeous table topper (or quilt)!! I bought the pattern but mine is the quilt.....can I just do the center for the table topper or is the table topper a different pattern from the quilt pattern? Your colors are just so awesome.
there is a bed pattern for it and several here have made it. do a search and take a peek at the pics posted.
That is gorgeous!
That is very pretty just as it is. I love your colors. It seems like it may be a problem to make into a bed sized quilt unless you've done it before. The next area would need y seams, in my opinion.

That is very pretty!!
As long as it is quilted once you turn it, I don't see any reason not to layer, sew, turn & finish edge where turned - I've done many tabletoppers that way (different patterns from yours) when I thought a row of binding would detract from the topper. Good luck with whatever you decide. |
I think I have seen this in a bed quilt pattern, but you couldn't ask for a more striking table topper. Good job.
that is very pretty. I like those colors
I love the fabrics and the pattern, I've got to do that pattern next. Beautiful job and either it'll be a gorgeous table topper or a quilt, you can't lose.
Have no idea what would be best for you to do, but I do know that it is gorgeous. Beautiful colors. For me, I would "birth" it and use as table topper where it could be seen by everyone.
Every time I see this pattern I swear it's my next project. Yours is wonderful.
WOW! I love the colors!
Could you post a pic of the quilt pattern? I have my fabric picked out to mae the table topper but am curious as to what the quilt looks like.
It would make a beautiful quilt. I have no suggestions for you, but know someone on this site will.
I don't have any pinks in my home but that is really just beautiful. Wish I could make that project.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and compliments!
Now I have a third option LOL!! I think after I "birth" it and quilt it, I'm going to use it as a wall hanging. I have the perfect space in my dining room for it. Now the new dilemma: how do I hang it? I think I have to make a frame out of thin strips of wood in the shape of the piece but if anyone has another suggestion, please share. You guys are the greatest when it comes to helping out fellow quilters--thank you! |
That is just beautiful,I bought the same pattern and kit up in Lancaster Pa.I must get busy and make mine !!!!

WOW! That is really pretty, where did you get the pattern?
Quilt or table topper it will be beautiful but I'm not sure how to answer your questions. |
That is truly beautiful. Love the pattern.
Really pretty table topper. I would do the "birth" thing turn it right side out & top stitch around it.
Me too!!!!! Please give us the pattern
Ohhhhhhh, this is pretty. And, it turned out so well. I think it would look pretty on a bed. Go for it. turn it into a queen!!
It's beautiful! Either way would be beautiful. Love the colors. Great job!
You can also "birth" it by doing the backing in 2 pieces. Cut an oversize backing. Seam it down the middle with an opening for turning. Sew the sandwich all the way around, turn it right side out, then whip stitch the opening closed.
It's beautiful. I so want to make a star spin, but haven't been able to find the pattern. |
This is truly beautiful. I am still new so, I do not have enough experience to answer your questions.
How gorgeous is that!! Can hardly wait to see it finished!

Pattern is Crazy Eight Strip Teaser a Table Topper by "The 3/4 Crazies" and can be purchased from Jae's Attic in Lake Havasu City AZ (at least that's what's on the pattern). Check out the tute here by Roulen; hers is beautiful and very similar.
Thank you so much everyone!!! I really hesitate posting my work because of the incredible talent here; you've given my confidence a real boost!! |
Beautiful!!! Make a second one and then you can have a quilt and a table topper.
That is absolutely gorgeous!
very, strikingly pretty
l would leave as a table topper I would also bind it, and if you do not want to draw from center colors, (I agree with this thought) then you can make your binding from the same fabric as the background fabric. |
It is very pretty where did you get the pattern? Is there a tutorial for this design I would love to try it as a table topper but looks difficult.
Beautiful in pinks. You did a marvelous job.
