Can you please explain how you tuck the lining into the outer bag fabric. It seems to me that there is no hole left since you sewed it close in the previous step. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had trouble with that part too! In fact I was in tears over it. I had racked my brain for hours trying to figure that part out. It told my husband I know I'm smart enough to be able to understand this but I don't! He calmly listened and took the sewn rectangle pulled on the sides to separate the two fabrics and then tucked the top part into the bottom part. So simple but so hard to put in words. I hope this is clearer to you in my words.

Thanks Onebyone! You did a great job explaining what I suspected was the only way to make this bag...many thanks! Do you ever add stabilizer to the fabric to make the bags stiffer?

I've purged several times but you'd never know it. I've donated, sold some on Ebay and I still have way too much. I don't have a lot of yardage because I'm a sucker for fat quarter bundles but still it's out of hand.
I haven't bought any fabric since around May and don't intend to (we'll see about that). I don't have anyone who will use it in my family so I need to purge more. Of course if I live to be around 500 I'll be all set.:D

I have quilted the sewn rectangle after turning to make a nice tote. As long as it tucked in nice I guess you can add anything. Make it skinny for a water bottle holder, wider for a cutting mat bag. All sorts of options.

Ok here's a new one I haven't seen discussed before... I have a friend - who IS a quilter! - who keeps nagging me to make a list of all my UFO's and unquilted tops. She has a very linear, organized, regimented way of thinking; she will not start a new project until she finishes her old one, and she has lists for everything that she works from. Sometimes she'll get stuck on her current project and won't work on anything for months while she waits for a solution, or for inspiration to strike.

I am a completely different personality type. I know exactly what UFO's I have, I don't need a list. I told her in the time it would take me to make a list, I could finish 2 or 3 of these tops. If I get stuck, usually working on another project will un-stick me. But she will not drop it! Just yesterday she sent me a link to a video of someone showing how she made a list. It's really starting to irritate me and I really don't want it to affect our friendship. Up til now, my responses have been to tell her I don't need or want a list; I've joked about it; I've laughed it off; and in the last year or so my response has been to completely ignore these suggestions. But she will not stop. I'm afraid at some point she will say something and I'll snap and say something rude in return, and it will hurt her feelings.

I wonder if she is worried about having to finish your UFO's?

Onebyone 10-15-2024 08:35 AM

Tell her: I thought about your way but decided I don't want a written inventory so the decision is no I'm not doing it.
If she had any friend sense she wouldn't have kept on nagging you in the first place over something so absurd so don't feel like you have to smooth her feelings.

Um, no. Not even a remote possibility.

At first, I thought she was joking and playfully giving me crap. But it's gone too far, she just will not let it go. I will try phrasing it this way, straight and to the point without trying to soften it, hopefully that will get through to her.

My friend gave me the idea of cutting scraps into tumblers. I have a Go cutter and do have the medium tumbler die, so started cutting some scraps into tumblers. They are there in a tote now, ready for when I want to do some mindless quilting. They make fun quilts.
