I always buy at least two yards of any fabric unless buying in a family that has large numbers..I have one collection(family) that has 17 colors. I have a blue roseon white background collection of 2 yards each...probably 20 different fabrics...my stash encompasses a 12 foot double closet...floor to ceiling in drawers and shelves. Also, in boxes and containers under the binding and quilting machine. I could quilt for a few years without buying anything except a few companion fabrics....LOL yeah right if I could only do that I wouldnt have a stash

All sizes, store by colour using Ikea storage box`s that pull out on runners.

I've never set foot in a fabric store. Most of my stash consists of other peoples scraps. I did recently buy some FQ's on ebay for a baby quilt I made. I occasionally find yardage in my local thrift store but most of my "bolts" are actually sheets that I find there as well. I'm too cheap to spend much money on this hobby. I'm all about making something from nothing.

i keep what ever is left over from any projects. if it is 'fold-able' it goes on the shelves if it is too small to fold i have baskets for different 'scraps'. unless it is a frayed edge less than 1/2" wide i keep it

I see myself in so many of the above comments. I told myself that when I retire, I will work only from my stash. That was a couple of years ago and my stash is growing not getting smaller. I have some large pieces 3yds and as small as a bin of fat quarters. I really shouldn't buy another yard, but that spoils the fun of quilt shop hopping. Not only do I have a stash of fabrics but one of patterns too. I keep them in a binder with clear plastic sleeves.. But still manage to misplace one every now and then.

I have alot...lol, but it will all get used eventually. I have many bins full. I used to have it all sorted out in the bins, but as my stash grew, I became more unorganized. If I see something that stands out and I like it, I buy it, and usually atleast 3 yards of it. Even if I don't have much that matches it, blenders and tonals will always work with it.

i buy what I need unless it is very special, like the william morris I bought yesterday

I mainly buy fat quarters & half yds, sometimes more if it is for backgrounds or backing, but those are two I buy most, so I have a lot more variety in my quilts. You use so little if you scrap, so you don't need big pieces of all it...
