i don't even like using Insul-bright because i get slivers of silver in my machine.

My mother always kept her pins in a bar of ivory soap, never knew why, i still have hers and it will stay as it is, but never could under the soap thing

the bits of steel in the sewing machine crossed my mind too.

I like your solution much better!

Real Simple Magazine also suggests using soap for the same thing....Havent tried it yet tho'...

the soap on the SOS is like a lubricant...it also keeps the steel wool from rusting should it get damp in your room!

You can now purchase a needle sharpener for machine needles. Look for it at your LQS, Joann's or online.

that is what started this whole converstion...these sharpeners

are no more than a steel wool pad incased in fabric...you run the risk of getting steel fibers inside of your machine if you use them!

They also run $10+ at the LQS....

Thanks for sharing this very useful tip. I am going to use it. Better then steel wool. Machines are way too expensive to take a chance.
