Talk about sticker shock - took a trip to JoAnn's yesterday with my 40% off coupon to replenish my Warm & Gentle batting. (I have never used any other type). $13.99 a yard! Wow!! When I got home I checked a sales receipt from my prior batting purchase and it was $9.99 per yard. Have any of you found a better outlet for batting? Or different brand you are happy with? By the way - it's 118 miles round trip to JoAnn's so I'm not afraid to try on line. Thanks so much for your help.

I buy Hobbs 80/20 batting from the Quilting Connection in Elkhorn, WI.

I purchased Warm & White from JoAnn's earlier this month and paid $6.99 per yard. However, I don't know how it compares with the brand you have been purchasing.

I always suspect that they raise the prices on items so when they put them on sale they are the regular retail price after you apply the coupon. I'm not organized enough to keep old receipts but I wouldn't be surprised that this isn't what is happening.

The price of batting has been steadily increasing with the price of cotton. If it had been awhile since you purchased batting you missed the price creep that batting prices have been doing for awhile , right along with cotton fabric.

My goodness - 118 miles round trip just to hit a JoAnns!! You must live in the country!! That's not a bad thing - I love the counrty - but still...I don't think I'd go shopping very often. I actually like shopping online.

I like the Dream Green and it helps the enviroment. It costs about $14 for a twin size. Also Connecting Threads had Hobbs on sale for 30% and I think they do a couple of times a year. I bought the cottom twin size for $11 I think.

Most of my quilts go to charity so I'll watch this post for alternatives.

I went to Joanns this past Sat. because I saw on this board they had WN for 1/2 price.....the regular price was $13.99 and it was reduced to $6.99...I made sure it was on sale before it was cut; PLUS, I had a 20% off coupon I had gotten off web......

This Joann's is the nearest to me, 30+ miles one way. I had selected some other fabric, got my number and patiently waited for my number to be called.....I had #18 and they were on #11 and only had 1 person cutting.

This brassy woman came wheeling her cart up to the cutting table and told the JA employee that she was returning some fabric and it needed to be measured before the cashier would refund her money.....so the employee started measuring this fabric and writing her up a "ticket".....


Wait Wait Wait, aren't we all in that line for fabric to be measured ???? I eventually waited 40 minutes to have my little bit of fabric measured and cut.....

I really like the number system because once I get a number I get look around, look at patterns, etc...but really don't want someone to abuse system either ! When I finally got to have my turn I asked JA employee why that woman was allowed to do that and she just rolled her eyes.....and said some folks don't think the system is for them !

Honeynga, It was up to the JA employee to politely inform the woman that she needed to wait in line like everyone else. I am not afraid to speak up for myself in a situation like this, but I have thick skin.
