Makes me furious! They'll probably dump all the stuff...what a waste. It means nothing to them if they can't sell or hock it. Hopefully her things will be found.

mimee4 01-11-2011 06:36 AM

How sad for her to lose all her work. I sure hope the police find the trailer and get everything back unharmed.

Central Ohio Quilter 01-11-2011 06:37 AM

Can you give us a description of the trailer and a license plate number? The thieves are not likely to keep the trailer very close to where they stole it from.

We here on this board are a fairly large group of people from around the country. Perhaps someone here may happen to spot the trailer and notify their local police department.

Please let us see if we can help! Give us a description what to look for!

grannypat7925 01-11-2011 06:40 AM

Whether insured or not this would still be devastating! Sure hope they catch the crook!

Crabby Patty 01-11-2011 06:44 AM

That is devastating. That poor woman. Hope they find the culprit and punish him/her harshly. But I'm afraid that itis like BellaBoo said "Not much done to criminals anymore". Let's hope for the best.

drdolly 01-11-2011 06:51 AM

hopefully she had insurance. Next how do you not find a trailer, they are pretty big and with word of mouth someone will surely find it. Keeping fingers crossed that they find it with everything still in it.

susie-susie-susie 01-11-2011 07:11 AM

That is so sad. I am hoping that she recovers her things. I wouldn't think that they would be easy to sell. Hopefully the police will watch for ads trying to sell them. I have my doubts that that will happen. I wonder if the insurance will cover the value of the quilts. I think it will only cover the cost of materials not the labor.

nwm50 01-11-2011 07:15 AM

Bet they thought they was stealing something other than quilting items!! Hope they will put it aside so that someone can find them and notify the police and have them returned to her....

MaggieLou 01-11-2011 07:16 AM

Judging from the writeup it doesn't appear that she had insurance. Most insurance companies won't insure anything but the trailer since it's not secured. They won't insure the contents (ask me how I know). I hope she gets her things back but unfortunately the theives probably just dumped the contents somewhere. They wanted the trailer not what was in it.

Wild Granny 01-11-2011 07:37 AM

Know the Shallotte, NC area well. Close to some of the best beaches around. Dependent on tourist business, and in this economy many folks have been very hard hit. Hope this story has a happy ending. Thanks for posting it.

Poakie 01-11-2011 07:51 AM

That is just terrible. I hope she had insurance.

Lady Jane 01-11-2011 08:28 AM

That breaks my heart that people can be so mean!

JANICE E. 01-11-2011 09:35 AM

EagarBeez 01-11-2011 10:01 AM

what a cruel thing to do! I feel so badly for the woman. I hope she is able to get something back. Maybe the person or persons that stole it were only interested in the trailer and had no idea of the contents

Flying_V_Goddess 01-11-2011 10:02 AM

That's terrible! I hope there is a happy ending to this story. If the punk isn't caught and brought to justice by our court system then I hope justice is brought on by karma. And from the sounds of it karma is going to beat that punk good.

penski 01-11-2011 11:00 AM

omg, i hope someone returns it to her

stitchofclass2 01-11-2011 11:55 AM

This is obscene. Is there anything that we on the Quiltboard can do for her? Please let us know.

Roberta 01-11-2011 01:29 PM

Insurance or not, to have something stolen from you is devestating. When our home burned, someone came into the cellar and stole our brand new sump pump. How they dared to enter and go into the cellar of a house falling in I'll never know but they did.

I hope the police find the person responsible so the contents may at least be salvaged, not much punishment is given to thieves these days.

I don't think motor vehicle insurance will provide coverage for a business. It's insurance for just that...a motor vehicle. It's even hard to get coverage for the pesonal items you might have in your car at any given time. I feel bad for her, I hope it turns up!!

dotcomdtcm 01-11-2011 02:33 PM

Each of us could send something, like a group hug. What do you think?

Quilting Nana 01-11-2011 04:26 PM

Soooooo sorry to hear. I will pray she gets her stuff back.

It is too late for this poor lady but any of the rest of you who own a trailer this is the gadget you need. Thieves cannot hook onto your trailer with this being used.

We have one of these on our camp trailer.

Her homeowner's insurance may cover this. She should look into that. I wish we all had her license plate number. My friend lived in Englewood, Fl and decided to move north to Virginia. Looked in the paper, got a moving company without checking them out. They packed and loaded the truck but when she got to Virginia the truck never showed up. A month later the police found an empty truck at the end of a back rural road in Florida. She did have insurance but could not get back her family pieces, pics, etc. I just do not trust many people any more. Where are the quilt police when you really need them? I would suggest that if she has pics of some of the stuff, serial numbers to her machines, that she post them on the "stolen
quilt" site. (I, off hand, do not know the site name, maybe some of you do). Come on, girls, lets get together, get the license plate number and help this gal out!!

The cruelity of some people cause to others is unbelievable. All the years it must have taken her to accumilate all her machines and fabrics. My heart aches for her.

Halo 01-11-2011 05:47 PM

What a shame. Some people are so cold now days. I feel the laws should go back to the way they were years ago. If the criminals were caught (like horse & cattle thief's they were hung since that was someones lively hood) a lot of these crimes would stop. I feel this falls under that category cause it is her lively hood. I know this sounds harsh, but as long as the laws protect the criminals now days, it is only going to get worse since if they do get sent to jail now, they get everything provided to them free. They don't have to pay for rent, food, medical, & get all the luxuries we can't afford plus don't have to pay taxes on any of it. I guess that is why they call it the criminal justice system. The criminals are the ones that get any justice. I know the victims don't. My bad for thinking this way?

sewingsuz 01-11-2011 05:55 PM

Poor lady. I hope insurance give her fair deal. maybe she was moving from one rental building to another.

Halo, I agree with you. America is tops for criminals. We are too soft on them. Look at how other countries handle criminals. And we call ourselves progressive and more enlightened. Crimes against children needs tougher laws. It just makes me sick to see so many doing light time for ruining a childs life. I better stop before I get carried away on that one.

SO SAD...keep us posted.

svenskaflicka1 01-11-2011 06:54 PM

i haven't read all of the replies, here, so i hope i'm not repeating something someone has posted--but we should all keep an eye on auction sites like ebay, craig's list, etc. unless they had a plan, or seriously wanted to steal an embroidery business, they will try to fence the goods somehow, somewhere. if there is a description of what was taken, many eyes could make short work of "policing" those sites. and we could be the best kind of quilt police!

I've been thinking of starting a business similar to this. Does the lady do well? I'd love to talk to her if you wouldn't mind passing along her business name & number.

DebbyT 01-11-2011 09:10 PM

Enclosed utility trailers have been a hot theft item recently. So many of them are similar in appearance, without identifying signs, such as company names, making it easy to sell to unsuspecting buyers.

grammysharon 01-11-2011 10:08 PM

I will add her to my prayer list!!

Anna.425 01-11-2011 10:44 PM

I was just thinking the same thing. We all have well seasoned stashes and if we each pick 2 - 4 fabrics to send it would at least help her start over. Keep us posted.

Same here but I guess it wouldn't bring back the hard work involved. Sad for her.

rona thickpenny 01-12-2011 12:53 AM

there are some wicked people in the world . I am so sorry to hear this story .i hope the lady gets her trailer back .

quilt-fanatic 01-12-2011 12:55 AM

If you are at a quilt show, keep your eyes open for any 'unscrupulous' looking people selling quilts - from a trailer! If the police can't catch them, maybe we can.

I am guessing that her things were in a trailer because she is a show vendor, and only needs them when she goes to shows.

clsurz 01-12-2011 07:22 AM

People do stuff like this because they can. That is how our society is today. Hopefully she will have insurance on it.
