We recently had an incident here in southeastern NC, town of Shallotte. Some very mean person stole a trailer parked at a woman's house - it contained her entire quilting, crafting and embroidery business, as well as several quilts. I believe this was Sat. Haven't heard any more about it since. She's appealing for return of the contents only of the trailer. I'm sure this poor woman is devasated.

wolph33 01-10-2011 06:17 PM

on my gosh that is awful,to hard to imagine

Why would someone be that cruel?

craftybear 01-10-2011 06:17 PM

that is terrible, I hope she had the contents insured

suebee 01-10-2011 06:18 PM

thats terrible!!

Renee110 01-10-2011 06:18 PM

not to sound unsympathetic, but surely she has insurance? If it was a business...

sharkee 01-10-2011 06:18 PM

Unbelievable. Praying that she gets her things back

Lynn Luker 01-10-2011 06:19 PM

I am so sorry this happened. What a shame.

quiltgrammyt2 01-10-2011 06:19 PM

OMG.What is this world coming to?

Marion Jean 01-10-2011 06:21 PM

I would certainly hope she had insurance - but still, quilts become such a personal thing - hard to replace, especiallly if any are vintage or made with discontinued fabrics.

I was thinking the same thing :(

quiltingfan 01-10-2011 06:23 PM

why was all her things in a trailer? I do not understand, feel bad for her anyway though. What a horrible thing to have happened to her.

BellaBoo 01-10-2011 06:32 PM

I would think it was a camper type trailer with wheels that someone attached to a hitch and drove off with it. No other way to steal a trailer without a lot of time involved. I think a camper has to be licensed and insured like a vehicle if it is used on the road. I hope the police find the person responsible so the contents may at least be salvaged, not much punishment is given to thieves these days.

I'm thinking maybe she had her studio set up in a trailer.

featherweight 01-10-2011 06:36 PM

We have a lady close to us and she has her business in a 5th wheel. But, I am sure she would still carry insurance on it. She sews sells fabrics and has a quilting machine in it.

Maia B 01-10-2011 06:39 PM

Awful!

jaciqltznok 01-10-2011 06:42 PM

unfortunately her insurance company might not cover a biz that was not properly secured. A trailer that can be stolen easily is in high demand..they use them for portable Meth labs!

Hope she gets the stuff back....

Stitchnripper 01-10-2011 06:43 PM

That is too bad.

Texasjunebug 01-10-2011 06:44 PM

You guys forget that just because a small business is trying to survive - not all can afford insurance. An owner has to make enough margin with their sales to live - that's darn hard to do these days. Usually just the sales tax collected and remitted to the state is more money than the profit that is left. Somebody in that town knows where that trailer went. I'd put a big notice in the closest newspaper. Darn that makes me so angry.

Anybody that owns a camper, trailer of any kind should paint their phone number on the top in the largest letters possible - or some identifiable symbol from the air.

justwannaquilt 01-10-2011 06:45 PM

Here is the web article about this. There is a video that will start if you click on it, it is on the right hand side. http://www.wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=13806532

No amount of "insurance" money is going to bring back what she had in that trailer. Some people get that money isn't everything in life!

davidwent 01-10-2011 06:46 PM

Good Lord! And during the holiday season to boot
David

dflynn 01-10-2011 07:03 PM

Let us know if she get anything back.

amma 01-10-2011 07:26 PM

How sad :(

KathyAire 01-10-2011 07:36 PM

The thief might not have even known what was in the trailer. It was an easy mark for him/her to just hook up the trailer and take off.
We once had a motorcycle trailer with two motorcycles on it stolen from our driveway.
Thieves are bold and have no consideration for anyone. They will take anything that is not nailed down. If drugs are involved, they will sell a $500.00 item for $10.00.

CarrieAnne 01-10-2011 07:41 PM

Sad. My Dad owns a construction company, and he parks a trailer with his tools, generator at the job site. He has been stolen from ALOT, they usually cut the chain and steal all the tools. Sad how people have become!

earthwalker 01-10-2011 07:42 PM

Yep...very true. You have to be so vigilant these days.

Jaynie 01-10-2011 07:44 PM

My prayers for this women that the law enforcement find her trailer quickly and with all the contents still inside & unharmed.

craftymatt2 01-10-2011 07:48 PM

WOW, that is just awful, I hope they catch the culprit, and throw the book at him or her. I will say lots of prayers

CarrieAnne 01-10-2011 07:48 PM

You never know, they wouldnt be able to pawn off fabric, lol, I wonder what they would do with the stuff?

davidwent 01-10-2011 07:55 PM

The problem is...and why thieves are so brazen, is the justice system in this country is a JOKE!!! Even if they do get caught they will get their wrists slapped, nothing more
David

Boscobd 01-10-2011 07:58 PM

How awful!

b.zang 01-10-2011 08:01 PM

I hope they were expecting some expensive items like 4-wheelers or motorcycles and were sorely disappointed to find fabric and sewing machines! Kind of a limited market for quilting materials.

tjradj 01-10-2011 08:13 PM

How brutal. She is obviously devastated in the video. I hope the thieves are caught and punished for grand theft.
I sure hope she insured the contents, even if it won't cover everything.

Sadly they might dump it. I had a friend in the printing busineswho had their truck stolen. Next thing you know they're being fined for littering cause all their promo notepads had been dumped.

CarrieAnne 01-10-2011 08:37 PM

wow, I hope they gotout of the fines. Yeesh, talk about bad luck, eh?

C.Cal Quilt Girl 01-10-2011 09:24 PM

That's sad, hopefully will find what's in it and recover some of the items !! Can't see a big market except here for those things. It's not like she wasn't giving it a good shot at making a living at what we all like, kudos to her!!
Had an occurance out here not long ago with a Red Cross Emergency trailer being stolen.... recovered some of the items, just not sure I understand why.

Connie Merritt 01-11-2011 04:34 AM

Gosh that is terrible. Prey on the old and young. I hope they catch the perps (I watch CSI) and that she gets her belonging back. Let us know if this happens.

pocoellie 01-11-2011 04:59 AM

What a terrible thing to happen and I do hope she has insurance and that she'll get some compensation for the stolen goods, but it doesn't sound like she had insurance. I agree with davidwent though, even if the police recover it and everything in it, the thieves probably won't get anything but a slap on the hand.

ljs317 01-11-2011 05:48 AM

That is a very sad thing to have happened. I had my purse stolen once and it feels like a violation of your person.

Grandma Peg 01-11-2011 05:48 AM

How sad. Hope you she gets the contents back.
