crossing fingers and toes for you. Sure hope that quilt turns up soon

PamB8s 10-07-2011 07:56 AM

I wanted to post here so it would show up in MY POSTS, so I can find you easier. There are beginning to be lots of small town quilt shows right now. I am just across the border in AR. I certainly hope you find it.

quilter53 10-07-2011 08:01 AM

I'm in so. Ok. I will keep an eye open for it. Please let us know here if and when you find it.

Remember, it's getting that first story into the media that is the hardest. Once one outlet has run your story, other outlets will be more interested.

Don't leave any outlet out because it doesn't seem very significant. A lot of times, reporters go through those little weekly papers, etc, for ideas for stories that they can use.

The more I think about it, the more I think the angle to take would be that of Ms EveryBurglaryVictim and what victims go through after the crime. How it's not always the most expensive items that hurt the most, it's the stuff with little monetary value that have immense sentimental value. And how little actual help there is out there for victims of "minor" crimes (that don't seem so minor to the victim).

The fact that the quilt is a memorial quilt, of someone you loved so much but (probably) was only known to her family and friends is the most likely hook to hang the story from. The more you can convey just what it was that made your grandma so special, the more likely your story will catch a reporter's attention.

You've got a good story, all you have to do is make it easy for a reporter to tell.

ccthomas 10-07-2011 08:56 AM

As you don't have a photo, could you do some type of drawing; any of the pieces of the materials left; that you could photo those and scan those in to the "drawing"

Sorry to hear that . Upsetting that someone broke into your home and then on top of it took your quilt . Horrible.

orangeroom 10-07-2011 09:28 AM

I hope no one was home/injured during your home robbery. Burglary is bad enough, but to have an armed person enter your home is horrible.

I hope somehow your quilt makes its way back to you!

KathyKat 10-07-2011 11:00 AM

Best of luck to you in having your quilt returned.
I checked out this site and was surprised to see quite a few postings. This is a good idea and I'm going to check it often so that I could possibly recognize a lost or stolen quilt.

When my brothers house was robbed they took pillow cases to carry stuff out in. They may have wrapped stuff in the quilt, it may still be in someones trunk. I was glad they did not take the pillow cases I made him! So sad when they take the personal stuff that can not be replaced.

My thinking too, hope it shows up somewhere! Having undergone a robbery 20 years ago makes me remember it in all the details just reading your post.

If you've seen it anywhere in Oklahoma/ NW OK, or OKC...please let me know. Thank you for reading!

Sorry about your lose, I know I would be so hurt if I lost my Mom's quilt. I sent all of my Oklahoma e mail buddies and family to watch out for your quilt. you might want to put up a note at all the thrift stores and goodwills maybe if it's donated maybe they will let you know. I'll keep you in my thoughts

quilt3311 10-07-2011 12:20 PM

This is a reminder to be sure to take a photo of all your quilts as you do them.(or receive them) I keep copies of my quilts on a disk at my insurance company's office. I don't suppose every office does this but mine does, along with an inventory of "stuff" so if the worst ever happens they have everything listed.

good idea , I have some of my quilt pictures but most were gifts.

Nancy O. 10-07-2011 12:46 PM

So sorry to hear about your stolen quilt. I know you said you have no picture. Just an idea, would you have a picture of someone or something that may have been standing next to the quilt when you took their picture and the quilt would be in the background. Maybe a pet picture, family member, friends, etc.

Greyhound Mom 10-07-2011 12:51 PM

I am so sorry that happened to you.

chickadeee55 10-07-2011 12:55 PM

Hope you find it.

azsupergram 10-07-2011 02:18 PM

I'm so sorry this happened to you. How terrible.

Esther

Grandma Peg 10-07-2011 02:26 PM

Good luck, hope it is found.

momto5 10-07-2011 03:45 PM

That's the lowest of the lows....hope you find it and it's just fine!

Phannie1 10-07-2011 03:50 PM

I would let all the Goodwills and donation places know you had it stolen so if it shows up. Maybe a hand drawing would be somewhat helpful.

LadyElisabeth 10-07-2011 03:51 PM

It may not travel as far as Oregon, but I will be on the lookout for it, the center square is so unique, that will show us it is yours.

GMaJanet 10-07-2011 05:14 PM

grrrrr....

GMaJanet 10-07-2011 05:14 PM

scrappylady 10-07-2011 05:25 PM

What a rotten thing to do. Peole have the engery to steal but won't work. Seems like that would be harder than a full time job. I hope you find it.

Alondra 10-07-2011 05:41 PM

Oh, my, what a terrible thing to have happen! But thank goodness you and your family are ok. I hope someone finds it for you and returns it. There is a national stolen/lost quilt site, I believe, where you could register it. Would be nice if you had a picture of it.

ging10ging 10-07-2011 05:44 PM

Sorry to hear you was robbed there is so much of that today. It's a shame to have something that sentimal stollen makes you wonder what someone was thinking. Maybe if you have a pic you could put in on the board and you never know where it could turn up the way people move around and sell things. Good Luck and a gentle hug for you. Sue

grandma Janice 10-07-2011 06:07 PM

I'm in the yukon,Ok area. with all us quilters here in Ok. looking, it may just get back to you. I will be on lookout.

Shirlrh 10-07-2011 06:34 PM

So sorry. Hope you can get it back.

Carron 10-07-2011 06:38 PM

Do you happen to have any fabrics still with you that you used in the quilt. If so post those fabrics so people can check quilts they see for sale and perhaps get a lead.

Tweety2911 10-07-2011 07:47 PM

So sorry to hear about your quilt and pray you get it back.

madamekelly 10-07-2011 08:00 PM

Did I miss something? You had a home invasion, and all you tell us is you want your quilt back??? That is either some quilt, or you are a hopelessly addicted quilter! I pray it 'finds' you again. I also hope no one was hurt. Sorry about the lack of tact, I could not help myself.

Just a thought, you could run an ad on your local Craigs list, offering to buy a (whatever size) purple quilt, to see if the thief answers your ad. If so, call the police to arrange pickup. I saw a guy on TV, who did this, and got his piano back.

I really appreciate it!! I could see it popping up locally somewhere, but I don't go many places where I'd find it.

Thank you Sue. Hugs

I'm sorry about your precious quilt! What's up with people anyways!
I hope you get it back. I would call your local newspaper and see if they"ll help you. Good luck!

Sienna's GiGi 10-08-2011 01:24 AM

I hate when people do stuff like this. I agree that you should try to duplicate it using some quilt designing software so we all can get a visual. I know how it feels to get something very valuable taken from you. I hope it all works out for you. God Bless.

Roberta 10-09-2011 08:21 AM

Ask the local media if they can run a story about the theft. I'm so sorry these precious memories have been stolen.
