Some weeks I am finding it so hard to get some quilting time in. This week is one, work, house cleaning, visiting sick mom (I love you tho MOM!), errands...grrrrr...
I just wish I could wiggle my nose. Make time stop and relax with some soothing music and QUILT!

Patty Patches 08-24-2011 04:11 AM

Me too...

QuiltnNan 08-24-2011 04:12 AM

sounds like a quilting retreat is in order. take deep breaths.

dunster 08-24-2011 04:19 AM

hmmmm...wiggle nose...DWR is done...wiggle nose...Dear Jane is done...wiggle nose...wholecloth is done...wiggle nose...

I could get through my whole bucket list if I could just wiggle my nose!

michelehuston 08-24-2011 04:23 AM

I think we all wish that at some time or other!! Lately, more than usual, but this too will pass...:?

Carol J. 08-24-2011 04:27 AM

I had this problem years ago and decided Wednesday is MY day, I did only what was necessary for the good of the family and the rest could wait for another day.
Set a day for yourself, do what you want to do, and you will find you can handle the rest of your life
At that time, I too was visiting my mother 50 miles away once or twice a week, had to shorten that to once a week.
Others were caring for her when I wasn't there.
Take time for yourself and don't feel guilty, you owe it to yourself.

Carol J.

I can wiggle my nose but nothing happens!
You got to make the time happen. Push the world to the side and start quilting.

Let me know how you learn to wiggle your nose.

My to do LISTS (quilting and non quilting related too) keep getting longer and longer but I don't have the alloted time to work and FINISH any project....

If only we could quit working (but still have plenty of money)....give up sleep (and still be energetic)....and not cook or clean or pay bills (HEY that one's easy...get someone else to do it)

blueangel 08-24-2011 05:15 AM

Sometttimes you just have to push things aside and do something you want o do.

jansquiltn 08-24-2011 05:20 AM

I totally understand your sentiments and often feel exactly the same way!

What a concept!

ShirlinAZ 08-24-2011 07:19 AM

We can only be good for others if we are good to ourselves. Our own sanity is critical. MAKE some quality sanity time, and the rest of our hectic lives will go much smoother. If quilting is your sanity, then make time to do it.

fabrichore 08-24-2011 08:32 AM

me too....

tmg 08-25-2011 03:20 AM

I'm with you on that too!

sweetpea 08-25-2011 03:28 AM

hope you MOM get's to feeling better. It kind of make your world out of wack when you have someone you loved sick.

supergma 08-25-2011 04:37 AM

I second the motion! I finally finished a "couch potato" quilt last night after having it in the frame for 6 weeks. Wondering how long it will take to get the binding on.

Concentrate on Mom for now, and maybe some take along stuff to work on and just keep her company. Good for both of you. Housework can wait. That's my motto anyway. Even if you can only grab 15-30 min., it will do you good. Hope your Mom is feeling better soon.

Don't you just hate when life gets in the way? It's been the same way with me all summer long. I had such grand plans since I wouldn't have to be running between schools or home schooling. I was going to get so much done. Yeah well plans are all nice but life just gets in the way.

I agree with just wanting some time for ME - this summer has been a busy one- now canning season is on - so some more pick, can and sew a few stitches in between if any at all.... Like you said - STOP THE WORLD AND LET ME SEW!!! even if just for one week!!!

gardnergal970 08-25-2011 05:11 AM

Those are the times that I work on some kind of scrappy quilt...if only for 15 minutes...something I don't have to give much thought to but I can enjoy the soothing sound of the machine and see beautiful patterns of color develop from scraps. That's been my summer and I've gotten a queen top done. The really creative, designing stuff is on hold for later this fall after the garden is put to bed.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 08-25-2011 05:20 AM

I'd suggest making one day a week quilting day or setting aside 1/2 hour each day to quilt. It's amazing what you can get done in a short time. I'm hand quilting a double size quilt and it was going really slow. I made up my mind to quilt every day even if it was just 1/2 hour. I'm getting a lot done.

gramacheri 08-25-2011 06:00 AM

Be careful what you wish for. Time is so precious and when we fit something very special in (like quilting) it makes it more precious. Having a job is a blessing and having a Mom is even more so. Enjoy Mom and enjoy work and enjoy quilting.

kyrose 08-25-2011 06:06 AM

Something I learned from Mama: Don't worry about the dust on the furniture when there is a good book in the house. The dust isn't going any where. Just substitute quilting for the good book. Other words, take some time for yourself and what you enjoy. Life goes by too fast. One day you will wonder where it all went.

sailsablazin 08-25-2011 07:12 AM

Sounds like you are living at my house (except visiting the mom thing). Kids need to be transported 4--6 times/day to swim team, TaeKwonDo, etc.. There is no time for any quilting and the kids are sneezing since I have ignored the dust pretty much (although I have managed to buy more fabric this week, so that is something).
Maybe when school starts again. However, I have learned not to long for or wait for tomorrow. Today is the only day that you can count on and I have to make the brownies for 2 swim teams--(70 girls) and cut up watermelon. The word was to buy ROUND nacho chips, only serve Chocolate Milk and Water (I have a child allergic to milk), and cut the watermelon in WEDGES---someone has too much time on her hands....so I am cutting the watermelon in chunks just to spite the "control freak."
I do love it all, but I am tired.

"Housework only comes before Quilting in the dictionary."

Chunks instead of wedges!!??? You rebel you!!!

My youngest (of 3) is going into 2nd year University. Last year, while I was sewing peacefully with no interruptions (kids to taxi, brownies to make, Parent Advisory meetings, etc. etc. etc.) I was thinking that this was my reward for doing all those "kid" things for so many years! I love them, but am enjoying my "empty nest".

yayaquilts 08-25-2011 07:46 AM

Me too!!

belmer 08-25-2011 07:49 AM

That is exactly how I am feeling, I cannot finish a project and I have 3 going at one time. Hubby is home this week and I can't get into my sewing room. So many other things going on. I think I'm ready for Autumn, just so I can start quilting again.

dgrindey 08-25-2011 09:05 AM

I feel the same

Just Jan 08-25-2011 09:44 AM

I set the alarm a half hour to an hour earlier than I have to get ready for work. I get up, put the dogs out, start coffee then sew until my time is up and I have to face the real world! LOL This morning I made a pillowcase. Sometimes I work on a quilt block or just leaf thru a new quilt magazine... Its my quiet time; my ME time!

donnalynett 08-25-2011 11:12 AM

I still need to pressure wash our house and paint it, finish putting my flower beds to bed for the winter, prune a tree, have rock delivered and put in around the pond I put in, clean house, cook, and now last night I found out we are going out of town tomorrow to pick up our granddaughters and bring them home for a week? In my spare time I'd like to ride my horse or quilt.

mar32428 08-25-2011 12:01 PM

I have always said that GOD only made one mistake when he created the world. (everyone's due one mistake) He should have made 48 hour days. 24 for the work and sleep stuff and 24 for all the fun stuff.

Always thot the firemen had a great working schedule. On 48 hours, off 36 or something like that.

this is an excellent idea, carol. most jobs have days off at least one per week, why not mom? One day off wouldn't be disasterous. :)

KimS 08-25-2011 02:19 PM

It does seem life can get really hectic at times but having "me time" is really important. It helps us to better handle everything else. I hope your Mom is feeling better and you find a way to have time for yourself. :-)

jojosnana 08-25-2011 04:47 PM

I hope you find your me time......
