Storm at Sea can be paper pieced. I have a pp pattern somewhere for it Came as part of an applique lighthouse kit. SaS blocks were underneath the lighthouse. Can try and find it if you want to see it.

Whatever and why ever the wait, it's certainly worth it. What a beautiful quilt top. Now that it's surfaced, will we be seeing a finished quilt anytime soon? I hope so.

I know she will love the quilt. My hint is to make sure you starch or Best Press the material. I agree, the Tri-recs ruler is great for this quilt. I think I even got the direction with my ruler [?].

Thanks everyone. I was looking at the Creative Grids Non-Slip Storm at Sea Strip Ruler. If I can pull it off with out a ruler even better since it will take time to get to where we live. I will be making it out of her uniforms so I really don't want to mess it up. Lots of great input and I will look at what everyone has said and will certainly post when done. It is a beautiful pattern and I am excited - especially after hearing what everyone has said.

I have tried regular templates, and also the Wendy Mathson Trimplates. I did ok with regular templates, but I am very pleased with how my quilt turned out using the Trimplates. My quilt is here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/persona...s-t209159.html . I have recommended this method several times and will continue to do so. My wife and I are confident beginners, but we were able to do this quilt. The rulers give you the accuracy of paper piecing without having to tear paper off.
Storm at Sea is my absolute favorite pattern. I plan to do this pattern again, and I will use the Trimplates. Please keep us updated on what method you choose and post your finished quilt here. I would love to see it. Darren |

Matching the points is the most difficult and dealing with the bulk at some intersection can also cause problems. It is definitely a pattern for an intermediate quilter. I still have to get the border put on this baby. Took me over a decade to get this far !!

I paper pieced this one. The batik has boats, the Aerial Lift bridge, Isle Royal. The outside border has words from a Gordon Lightfoot song quilted in. My homage to the Fitz.

I used some templates by Marti Michel but I'm not sure of the website. If I were to do it again, I'd paper piece - and I hate paper piecing! It is difficult to align the points just right, but the result is so gratifying.
