I just got one but haven't tried it yet. I have a wall hanging to FMQ, so will be using it for that. I will definitely need some kind of "reminder" so I don't do damage to my machine. I have a bracelet I wear when I turn my iron on so that I will remember to turn it off. It does have an automatic shut off, but doesn't seem to be reliable.

For Corginole: I don't know how vintage your Berninas are but I had a straight stitch plate for both my Bernina 830 Record and my 1130. In both cases they came with the machines. When I bought my new 530 it did not come with the straight stitch plate and I had to buy it separately.

I would love one but my current machine doesn't have one. That is one of the things on my must-have list for my upgraded machine.

Totally worth the investment. I rarely use the standard plate anymore.

I love my Feather Weight for piecing! Have a Singer 237 that only straight stitches and keep my walking foot on it all the time.

A much nicer stitch can be achieved and as you say, the fabric doesn't get chewed up by the machine. I have a straight stitching machine that I prefer to use than any of the other machines. Very good for quilting.

My new sewing machine came with the two plates. I have not used but the one that came with the machine because I was afraid of broken needles and a machine. I did not understand the reason I had two plates. Good to know when I should use each plate.

It bothers me when my fabric gets pulled into the feed dogs so I am thinking about getting a straight stitch plate.
Do you use one? Does it fix the problem? Thanks! kitty Just make a note and post on your sewing machine so you will change the plate when you use other stitches. You don't want to break a needle. |
I put 2 bright red smiley face stickers on my straight stitch plate so I won't zigzag with it on. Really helps.
