Stuck on one pattern...

2 Attachment(s)
Have you ever been stuck on one pattern? I seem to be in that current situation. I just finished the 4th quilt top from Just Take Five. I really like it, and the one I just finished is really striking (or I think so), but I realize I am in a rut and it is time to make another pattern. Am I the only one who gets stuck on one favorite pattern?

I am going to attach two pictures, just so you see what I am talking about. Each looks so different with the different fabrics.

I do the same....for me it was tumblers. I do try and make something different inbetween even if they are baby quilts.

maddy13 06-08-2012 03:00 PM

cute quilts!

Dina 06-08-2012 03:00 PM

Now that is a good idea. I haven't made a baby quilt lately....thanks. (Good to know I am not totally alone....:) )

I like that your cat has chosen the non-cat quilt to lounge upon...territorial?

I don't finish enough quilts to get stuck on a particular pattern. I wish I had multiple versions of some patterns - I say "I'll come back and do that one again in different colors", and then I get distracted by something else!

I see what you mean same pattern different looks, Pretty both quilts

jcrow 06-08-2012 03:17 PM

I made a "Just take Five" quilt recently and when I took it back to the LQS where I purchased the pattern and fabric to have in LAd, the owner said "Oh, how cute, I never saw one actually made. Now I have to make one." I really like how easy they are to make. It's nice to make a quilt that you don't have to fight with. One without triangle or flying geese. The "Just Take Five" is a really fun, relaxing quilt to make. I understand you being hooked on it. I think I will make another one. You got me thinking about it. Thanks for showing us those pics of your pretty quilts.

Well, actually my cat was "helping" me take pictures of the other quilt too, but he kept making so many wrinkles in it I finally shut him in another room. If I am trying to take a picture of a quilt, he is just there. Quilt inspector, for sure!!

I haven't been stuck on a pattern yet. I seem to be just the opposite, in that I dislike making a quilt from a pattern again once I've used it. I also get burnt out on patterns and using the same fabrics during the making of a quilt, and bounce from one project to another, working on several at once.

Nice quilts. Yes, I have been stuck on a pattern. Currently, it is NY beauty.

ArtsyOne 06-08-2012 03:54 PM

Mine's currently Bento Box - see my avatar. I've made it in these Japanese Koi prints, in pastel pink/green, in batiks and in 30's fabrics. No matter how many times I make it, I still find myself getting up from a deep sleep to run and rearrange a couple of squares on my design wall. It's so much fun to make I don't think I'll ever get sick of it.

Oh - and I love your Take 5. I've never made one, but it looks like a lot of fun too.

EvelynJ 06-08-2012 03:57 PM

Yes, I am currently making a quilt for my boyfriend for Father's day that is just simple 2" squares of regular fabric and a great manly fleece material. I made my friend some now pot holders/coaster/hot pads using the same 2" squares in various greens (her favorite color). I love being able to arrange them and have them all the same size. But I do need to move onto something more challenging, maybe something with triangles. Still learning teaching myself so everything is a baby step but at least I'm getting somewhere!

nannyrick 06-08-2012 03:59 PM

They are soooo pretty!!! Thanks for sharing.

virtualbernie 06-08-2012 04:15 PM

I'm stuck on Winding Ways--3 so far. I understand!

crafty pat 06-08-2012 04:32 PM

I love the pattern and your quilts are so pretty. I have never made the same pattern twice. I have so many I wish to make and as I am now 73 I feel I will not get to so many of them.

Lisa Marie 06-08-2012 04:45 PM

They both do look so different, I like them both. Like you fabric choice for the boarders too.

DebraK 06-08-2012 04:46 PM

I did that with Patches and Pinwheels. Finally got it out of my system. I refuse to make them for anyone anymore.

baslp 06-08-2012 05:07 PM

I have made 2 I-Spy quilts and am starting a third one. I am going to give them as gifts.

Your quits look great.

pinecone 06-08-2012 05:08 PM

Mine was "warm wishes". I do like the pictures of the "take 5" and have the pattern as well as the "bento box" guess I better dig them up.

Ccorazone 06-08-2012 05:12 PM

I have made the same design only once. I want to try as many different designs as I can.

Msbaby 06-08-2012 06:20 PM

I made four Twisted Bargellos in a row. Finally made a Trip Around the World, which wasn't all that different. Now I am on a Dresden Plate kick. But I DO have fun!

stampinteresa 06-08-2012 07:04 PM

I love it! Both are beautiful. I am always looking for simple patterns to teach children. Thanks, Teresa

aborning 06-09-2012 04:49 AM

Your quilts look nice. That is a nice pattern. I am all about "quick and easy" patterns as I don't have much time to sew. I am stuck on Disappearing 9 patch (done in 3 color way or 4 color way) and "Just Can't cut it". I have made several of both of these patterns.

Rose Marie 06-09-2012 05:24 AM

Each quilt is a learning process and I want to learn it all.
Way to many quilts to make to get stuck on one.
I love pieceing not the quilting and binding so a simple quilt is not for me. Id rather spend more time on putting the quilt togather than making a quick quilt and facing the quilting part.

Lori S 06-09-2012 06:46 AM

I got "stuck" on log cabins for awhile... think I made 5 in a row.. I tend to generate alot of 1 1/2 inch left over strips .. so the log cabin seems to make the best use. The scrap pile got smaller .. but it was time to move on.
When you get your fill , you will know it and move on too.

katsewnsew 06-09-2012 07:19 AM

No, I have never been stuck on one pattern, but yours is a good one to be stuck on. They look so different in othercolors. Good pattern!

Cindy60545 06-10-2012 02:49 AM

I also get stuck on a certain pattern & will make several quilts from it before I move on. I have a couple that are "stand by" ones that are quick & easy to get one done in a hurry. When you get the urge for something else, you'll know it & move on.

teddysmom 06-10-2012 03:01 AM

I think I'm going to get the Take 5 pattern. I've been looking for a new EASY pattern. Thanks!

Lavada 06-10-2012 03:15 AM

Mine is drunkards path but different settings your quilts are very pretty

coachmatthewsvhs 06-10-2012 03:47 AM

4 one block wonders and counting..... guilty!

janegb 06-10-2012 04:18 AM

Its Flying Geese for me... so many variations! I like your quilts, and if you like making them and doing them in different colors combinations, then keep up that good work. It's up to you.. when you get tired of them, you will find something else.

coopah 06-10-2012 04:53 AM

I've made one Take Five and enjoyed the ease of it. I am stuck on the 9patch. No idea why. Just like the versatility of arranging blocks different ways, changning the blocks size, using up scraps, etc. Working on a pieced double wedding ring right now and it will never, ever, ever happen again! Straight lines for me!

PKGranny 06-10-2012 05:07 AM

I like your quilts - and they do look entirely different in different colors. I made 2 Take Fives - and both in the same color schemes. One friend saw the first and said "that's what I want" - and since she didn't have a clue of what colors, pattern, etc. to begin with I thought this was an easy solution. Just gave it to her Friday and she was so happy. Wanted to take a picture of her with it, but forgot my camera. Will take it next time I see her.

mslucas 06-10-2012 05:26 AM

where do you find the pattern? I would love to make on as yours is beautiful

damaquilts 06-10-2012 05:34 AM

The only pattern I ever made twice was Disappearing 9 patch... And that was 1 baby and one twin. I like the Take Five.. I have been cutting up scraps into 10" and 5" pieces. Wonder how it would look a little scrappy? Using color families instead of just the 5 fabrics. Well another one on the list to try now.

hairquilt 06-10-2012 05:44 AM

Yep I do that with the OBW-I just love that each block is a wonderful surprise when you put it together!

annasgirl 06-10-2012 06:08 AM

I'm stuck on jelly roll race!

faykilgore 06-10-2012 06:10 AM

Stack &Whack is addicting & I've done several. Saw a OBW on this board so now I'm doing one of those. I,too, too the surprise factor. Love your quilts & your quilt inspector.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 06-10-2012 06:37 AM

I don't like to make the same pattern more then once. It takes all the fun out of it for me. I made my granddaughter and myself scrappy quilts from the same pattern and now my daughter wants one. I told her I just don't know if I can do another. It would be like asking an artist to paint the same picture 3 times.

bibi 06-10-2012 06:38 AM

Why does it matter, if the end result is these lovely quilts? Obviously you enjoy what you are doing and practice does make one perfect. Being very new to quilting I try to use a learned pattern more than once. I have made several tote bags and small wall hanging with the same pattern and I am very happy that I did. So do as you please. Thanks for sharing.
