I'm so glad I'm not alone in my carelessness! I make these kind of mistakes everyday though....
|
When I cut patches too small I incorporate them on the back of the quilt.

Don't feel badly or beat yourself up. I have done that too and thought "where was my head? and what was I thinking?"

Just learning I have done that many times. I went back to the LQS and the lady asked what was I doing with all that fabric I just bought!! I told her," Learning to cut"!
|
Been there,done that

There are lots worse mistakes than that. Cheer up. You probably won't make THAT mistake again!

I think Hollis had a great idea. Part plain blocks at each end. Good luch on your choice :)

This reminded me of my Mom-I taught her how to sew /cut out patterns. her first project was a 3pc outfit for me,it took her all day 10 minutes before I got off the school bus she only had to hem the skirt-she pinned it up then sewed it up -into a pillow case -needless to say this was my favorite outfit and I passed it on to my Grand-daughter who still has it to pass on to my GGD who is only 2 sizes away from a fit.I really miss my Mom

I don't understand, I cut this silly strip twice and it's still too short ;-)

Make them anyway, just make more! Your border will just be a little narrower, that's all.
Formula for making half square triangles from 2 squares: FINISHED SIZE DESIRED + 1/2" (Seam Allowance) + 3/8" for Diagonal Seam = SIZE OF SQUARES TO CUT EX: Finished Size 2" + .5 + .375 = 2.875" or 2-7/8" squares I always round up 1/8" from that dimension anyway, so I don't really need this formula - just add 1" to your desired finished size, then trim to the correct size. I only mention the formula, in case you don't want to waste any fabric. |
As Forrest Gump says, "Stupid is as stupid does." Yesterday I decided to try applique with fusible web for my first time. After ironing all the pattern pieces to the RIGHT side of the fabric, I merrily started cutting them out and realized they were supposed to be on the WRONG side of the fabric. Thanks heavens it was a small project...

She was supposed to mark the center and sew on each side and cut down the center.

Definitely called a BLONDE moment. Glad to hear i am not the only one doing silly things. Thanks for sharing :)
|
this thread sure was on my mind while i was marking and sewing about a gzillion half square triangles.
|
I call those "creative moments". You'll use them for something eventually.
|
I've also done that early in my quilting years. The scarey part is that I'm capable of doing it again. I learned long ago to never cut or sew when I'm tired.
