I loved all of the solutions offered. Feline’s solution seemed like the best one and your finished product is the proof. I had been thinking of just a large square, which would have been the same size as the square that you completed with the two small squares. Your choice is better, because it retains your original border. I would be interested in seeing what a fan would have looked like.
But I have to say that I’m really amazed at the expertise of the various members who were able to change your original concept and show a rendering of their ideas. In fact, I’m in awe of their technical prowess.

If it really bugs you that much, I like it BUT I think platyhiker has the perfect solution!!

Absolutely beautiful! Sometimes, we are our own harshest critics! I think it looks amazing just as it is!

you could also just leave that space white.

That really makes the center stand out.

If you add one more on point square to each border and also shift them over by half a square, you can get the on point squares to meet nicely at the corners. It would look like this:

Making this change will definitely require some ripping and new sewing, but I think will be well worth it.

This is really nice. Love this fix.

The corners of the on-point blocks are bugging me....they look like bandaids to me! I have googled a bit, but I have not come up with a solution....any suggestions would be welcomed. Its still at a point where I can un-sew it...next border will be 1x3” flying geese....I think!

It is gorgeous. I would appliqué a mini octagon to mimic the center one on each corner.

How about adding a triangle on top of the 2 squares, the side closest to the corner? Or another suggestion would be to make it a full square on point so it would look like a larger diamond.

Your next row of flying will make it look really different. I don't see your "bandaid" look at all.

jillmc's picture is great. But I didn't dislike the bandaids. It's a lovely quilt.
