I've posted a "seeking" thread in the Classified section as well, but I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on a good fabric site where I could shop for Asian/Oriental fabrics. It seems to be a little harder to find nice ones online that aren't a bajillion dollars. Obviously discounts are best, but I don't want to sacrifice more than I have to in the quality department. I could just walk into the LQS and take my pick for a fat price, which is a satisfying experience, but so is saving some money.

I'm specifically looking for twelve different blue Asian/Oriental fat quarters for a Jewel Box quilt I'll eventually make.

Thanks! This site is such a wonderful resource.

Try doing a google search using "Kona Bay". There are a couple of Etsy shops that have some good deals but be careful, some of the prices quoted are for panels or less than a full yard. There are a few Asian/Oriental prints at Cotton Loft and thousands of bolts but they both have 1 yard mimimums. TOB will only sell in whole yard increments, Cotton Loft has a minimum order of $10 and first yard minimum, after 1 yard I believe they will cut in half yard increments.

Asian prints usually have gold embellishments and are also popular so it is difficult to find them for much less than that $8 per yard price point. Most LQS it is in the $10 to $12 per yard price range.

There is quite a variety of Asian fabrics at eQuilter.com and seems to range in price from $7.75 to $10.75 per yard. I have purchased fabric from this site in the past (not Asian though) and was pleased with their quality. Give them a look.

ShirlinAZ 04-29-2011 07:20 AM

Fabric.com is a great place to buy online.

Lori S 04-29-2011 07:27 AM

Blue Bamboo has a very good selection, can be pricey but all fabric is pricey these days.

So much beautiful eye candy... I'm browsing through the sites listed and almost all of them sell only at a minimum of a half-yard. So frustrating! But the search is still such fun and I get an eyeful with every click.

I have yet to troll through Etsy. That can be an adventure in and of itself. I think I'll save that one for when I get home, but it should be fun.

Norton House has some nice Asians and sell in 1/4 yard increments. But the price is in that $9 P/Y price range (once you figure shipping on top of the per yard price)

Oooh, I just found this googling Asian Fat quarters:

Jennalyn 04-29-2011 08:27 AM

So, so awesome! I can't thank everyone enough for their suggestions. Feline Fanatic, that bundle is SO PERFECT that it burns! I think I'm going to have to go ahead and purchase that, then go hunting for the last two I need separately. Thank you all so much!

maine ladybug 04-29-2011 11:37 AM

I would use equilter.com. Great site, good service and selection.

Maia B 04-29-2011 12:42 PM

Shiboridragon.com Fabulous selection and perfect service, not sure how the prices compare. Family-owned shop.

thequilterslink 04-29-2011 02:45 PM

www.intfab.com has some great fabrics, not sure if they sell fQ on line tho.

Gennynut 04-29-2011 03:12 PM

I've have bought some FQ's from debsews2. I've always been very pleased with them.

pocoellie 04-29-2011 04:19 PM

Our little LQS has a lot of Asian/Oriental fabrics, that are normally $8.50 a yard, but now 20% off. Unfortunately they're not online, but there's no minimum cut and no handling charges. If you would like me to get pictures, PM me and I'll get some and email them to you.

Buttons922 04-30-2011 02:37 AM

Quiltcorral.com

Krystyna 04-30-2011 03:17 AM

I love equilter.com, but also www.fabricparadise.com

jitkaau 04-30-2011 03:57 AM

Do you want real Oriental fabric or fabric that has Oriental designs on it? If it is the latter, Hoffman make a very nice range.

Jennalyn 04-30-2011 03:58 AM

More eye candy... I hadn't even realized that most of these sites existed! Oriental designs are what I'm going for, as opposed to the 'real deal'. My friend operates on the same "oooooh shiny pretty!" standard that I do. Heee.

jhoward 04-30-2011 04:01 AM

I'd suggest Blue Bamboo, as well. My sil and were there last fall....they have lots of Asian fabrics! I had never seen so many in one quilt shop, ever...as someone suggested they are online.

Chay 04-30-2011 04:48 AM

Try Blue Bamboo or Shibori Dragon - online stores.

tdvxh 04-30-2011 05:24 AM

Thank you for the link. I just placed an order.

L8quilter 04-30-2011 05:33 AM

The Quilted Fox in St. Louis has an excellent selection of Asian fabrics. http://www.quiltedfox.com/ I recently finished a quilt using Asian fabrics for my future daughter-in-law. Got all the fabrics there and the price was just about what everyone else was charging. You do need to buy in 1 yd amounts.

littlesister 04-30-2011 05:47 AM

I have bought Asian fabric from eQuilter.com and they are very good fabric and worth the price.

fivepaws 04-30-2011 06:15 AM

For shops that specialize in Asian fabrics go to Blue Bamboo or Shibori Dragon. Either one is great with wonderful customer service. They are my favorites. Of course, with the price of fabrics now, I use mostly from my stash. ♥

ywoodruff5 04-30-2011 06:16 AM

This is a site I used to visit regularly when I lived in CA and still use online. They have great silks at a very reasonable price and give great discounts to customers who have resale license.

Never gave much thought to Asian fabrics (not my thing, I guess) until I walked into the actual store of www.intfab.com! Wow! What a neat place and great fabrics!

fayzer 04-30-2011 07:49 AM

Try this site http://www.quiltingcotton.com/html/frameset_new.html

They have oriental fabric for $4.98. You can order in 1/2 yard increments.

They have a beautiful crane fabric. I have ordered before. All of the cotton is gorgeous. Some fabrics are $3.98 plus you can buy buy mixed end pieces by the pound.

Parrothead 04-30-2011 08:02 AM

www.quilteddragon.com
As the name implies, they carry a lot of Asian fabric. They also carry the Asian fabric magazine.

Jennalyn 04-30-2011 08:24 AM

The Quilted Dragon site is just fantastic! I'm drooling my head off. Their cutting options are also insanely reasonable.

Of course, a different friend of mine just pointed out that the friend in question and her fiance are both certified scuba divers and love to go to Jamaica (their engagement, their honeymoon, etc.) So now she has me torn between looking at Asian prints, which I know she loves, and ocean-island-esque prints, of which there are many in blue.

Good thing I have a while to decide!

http://www.theoldcountrystore.com/fa...menu=Orientals

6.50-7.75 a yard, got my package in 3 days, very fast

gramacheri 04-30-2011 09:55 AM

Jennalyn, Depending on where in MD you live, I'll suggest The Hayloft in Morgantown PA. I was there this am and they have lots of oriental fabrics. Good Luck!

Jennalyn 04-30-2011 09:58 AM

Unfortunately, I live right smack in the middle of the state, which puts most out-of-state resources out of my reach with gas prices. Fortunately, there are two very good quilt shops within a reasonable distance of my commute. If I eventually decide that I need to go in-store, I'll probably hit up either Tomorrow's Treasures (love their staff!) or Cottonseed Glory.

If I ever end up near there in PA, though... new quilt stores are always a blast. ;)

gzuslivz 04-30-2011 10:05 AM

The Shibori Dragon is a great shop. They are very nice.

BobbiG 04-30-2011 12:45 PM

A good place is www.bluebamboo.com

Another good shop is Aiko's Asian Fabric
