I ran across this pattern just this week. I think it is the same version of SBS. |
Love the Texas Version of the Sun Bonnet Sue.....

I made 2 for my niece's twins, but I guess I sort of cheated. I machine appliqued them on my Janome and it was a piece of cake! They really turned out cute.

yes, I did make 2 of them. I enjoyed making them as each block was different. I could also use up some of my scraps. Loved matching the colors and embellishing each block different. Fun to do!!!!!!!!

Have you made a Sun Bonnet Sue? I'm working on my first Sun Bonnet Sue lap quilt. Thought it would be a fairly simple quilt to make - Boy I was wrong. There is so much detail to making these little boys and girls.
I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. It has been a great way to use up scraps. I have made 2 different versions of Sunbonnet Sues and an Umbrella Girl. I did needle-turn applique on the Umbrella girl, freezer paper applique on one of the Sues and fused the other one and blanket stiched it. I prefer either of these methods rather than the interfacing method which I have done on other projects. I used authentic vintage fabric on the Umbrella Girl and reproduction 30's fabric for the Sues. They were SEW EASY and turned out lovely. Don't give up, you can do it and your rewards will be great!!!! |

I used Eleanor Burn's book, Sun Bonnet Sue Visits Quilt in A Day, http://www.amazon.com/Quilt-Day-Sunb...quilt+patterns and the interfacing that can be bought with the cut outs printed on it. I am a beginning quilter and it wasn't to hard to make. I made it as Christmas gift for my oldest DD a couple years ago. I will have to take a picture of it soon.
