sharon b Those are gorgeous!

Caroline S 02-05-2012 02:53 PM

Susan, I am now on Clue #5, the Assembly. The original instructions said to make 6 block number 2s. Your labeled items says 2. When I look at the layout diagram I see 6 Block 2s. Also I cannot find the original cutting instructions for the 6 1/2" and 12 1/2 inch squares for the triangles. Did I miss something?

Caroline you do need 6 of the #2 blocks and the triangles were in the original cutting instructions

sharon b 02-05-2012 03:12 PM

Caroline we all love yours :) Keep going you are into the home stretch

donac 02-05-2012 03:45 PM

Those are wonderful. I have saved all the instructions. I am glad that I didn't try this one today. I have been feeling blah all day.

The layout is wrong on this quilt. She needs to switch places with blocks 3 & 4 and the colors will flow.

I think you missed something. There are 6 side triangles cut out of background fabric. To get those the directions say:
Cut 1 Strip 12 ½ x WOF
Sub cut 2 – 12 ½ x 12 ½ squares
Sub cut these in half on the diagonal both ways. This will give you 8 total triangles, we will be using 6 These are for the side triangles. I think the sub cut is the step you may have missed. the next step was to cut 2 6 1/2 squares from the remaining fabric and then cut them on the diagonal. That will give you 4 smaller triangles for the corners

You do need to make 6 block #2 and I see where your confusion is. You are supposed to label each set of blocks, no matter how many you make of that block, with the block number. So block #1 will have a label on each that say "block 1" Block #2 will have a label on all 6 that say Block 2 and so on.

Does that make since?

Sharon, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised! When I first saw your color choices, I was not sure how the print would read, but it turned out very nice!

I am very proud! I accept your offer and I will get in touch with you when I have the instructions written for "I guess that's why they call it the Blues" Labor Day Mystery, Monday, September 3rd.

nursie76 02-05-2012 04:22 PM

I am definitely in! Will probably be at our sons in Rochester, NY so it will be perfect...DH and DS will keep each other occupied and I can quilt, quilt, quilt!!!

Tell mom, the pattern is not right the way she has it, but if she likes it that way, its her quilt and her design choice :)

Tell dad, humm, that's an idea and look at your PM's

I just did that myself and my DH insisted that I watch the half time show.. stood there for a moment and then said, I have stuff to do upstairs... later! LOL

anightmoon 02-05-2012 05:57 PM

loved the different pics. I had to stop in the middle of sewing mine together (step 6?)to go to Sunday dinner at mom's, so should finish in the morning. I would be happy to test a new quilt if you still need testers. I think a little longer time on the first step would be nice, but made it up in later steps. (hmmm...could have been the kids calling mom at first until I threatened bodily harm...lol)

I finally figured out why I did not have the instructions for the triangles. I printed them out on both sides to save paper and did not put them in the plastic sleeves incorrectly. Then I had the blocks laid out on the bed and had to clear them because DH will be going to bed right after the game. No way will I be able to make any more progress tonight. I will finish tomorrow for sure. I have so much fun doing this mystery quilt and love the design.

Thanks so much! I wont be here tomorrow as I have to work to support my fabric habit, but if you have any questions, I will try to get to them when I get home :)

sharon b 02-05-2012 09:13 PM

Hope others share theirs with us :)

donac 02-06-2012 02:16 AM

I love all the tops that I have seen.

If you are writing a new mystery during the summer I will have time to test the pattern.

Xtgirl 02-06-2012 04:26 AM

Love the quilt tops! I was away at a longarm conference all day...wish I could have joined in...love it and I've never done anything on point. As soon as I get to longarming a couple of charity quilts,I can join in the fun!!!! Congratulations:)

Monday morning update. After taking the laid out blocks off the bed last night, I decided to go back, re-label all of them and start over again with the layout. I had sewn row 1 together but decided to deconstruct it also. After breakfast I will bring in my design wall from the garage (a long story) which I should have done yesterday. I hope to get the piecing done along with the borders today. I love making mitered borders and use them on most of my quilts. Will keep you posted on my progress.

Here is the top on the design wall. I put number labels on each piece to be correct with the block placement. And I fixed the 6b and 7b block placement that Susan mentioned.

I was reading the posts again and trying to find where I left off and found yours again. Made me laugh! At work, the lady that does all of the field trip planning (I drive a school bus) was pulling her hair out because she could not find the paperwork for a set of trips that was coming up. She swore that she printed them and couldn't find them so she reprinted them. She handed me mine and for some reason, I put it down with the back side up and guess what was there? The missing paperwork! LOL For some reason, the printer printed on both sides and she didn't think to turn over the paper. Guess it happens to the best of us from time to time. Glad you were able to find the instructions and continue on :)

I Love IT!! Now that you see it put together, its easy to understand why I stressed the numbers on the blocks. Good job!

nice job caroline. what are the dimensions of this quilt? the top center looks small.

The blocks are not sewn together yet so I do not know. It could be the perspective of the camera angle. The rough measurement unsewn and pinned to the design wall is 37" x 48".
