Flannel as batting

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Not sure why you want to double it up, I’ve used flannel many times as the ( batting) in table runners and placemats, but have never used more than one layer. Just prewash the flannel so it doesn’t shrink/ distort the runner.

After washing and drying the flannel, starch and iron it. I do that to all the flannel I use in sewing. I took a very expensive workshop and we were instructed to starch and iron the flannel before cutting.

Onebyone what a great suggestion. I will use. More of the flannel and give that a try. My table toppers turned out wonderful so am really impressed with flannel lining.

QuiltE I wish I was better with doing pictures. I am a real novice with techie stuff.

All the same ... would love to see what you are making with your great score of batting/flannel! Have fun making them ... and be sure to make one, just for you! :) |
Using the flannelette sounds perfect for table runners, especially when placing dishes or glasses on them. I worry a little about the thicker runners causing a tip over of a beverage if not placed carefully on them.

I only use a single layer of flannel with anything for the table because I do not want the poof of batting. I use the tall wine glass test - does it tip when almost empty? I find that a cotton top, back and one layer of flannel has never been an issue.
