I am finally taking the plunge to start selling some of my quilts. Over the years I have donated and given hundreds of quilts. I did my first commission one this month and it is on it's way to the quilters but am already spreading the word that i am making and selling babay quilts and got two orders yesterday ;).. I can't stop quilting but I sure need a way to fund this habit.. so wish me luck !!

Good luck! Sounds like you're off to a good start.

I really would like to know more about your plans. I love to quilt and am looking to find a way to fund it also. So many say that they cannot do the work and make any money at it. Do you have any suggestions?

Sorry for all the rude questions, but I had to ask.

Sheila

Good for you. I hope you get your price. I've been wanting to sell my quilts too. Problem #1 for me is DH. He thinks every quilt I make should be for us. Problem #2 getting the amount the quilt is worth. Keep us posted I'd like to know how you do.

mountain-moma 01-29-2010 05:11 PM

It is hard to part with them I agree.;) I have two orders already :) so we'll see how it goes.:) I do think it is much harder to get your money out of the bigger ones..

Thank you :)

Jingle 01-29-2010 07:22 PM

I wish you luck and the two are very pretty. I would think you would come out better if you did your own quilting. Just a thought.

Not really when I add my time... I'd rather be on to the next quilt than do that,... . the gal I have doing it does a LOT of machine work for me and my mom personally and also for our valor group she gives me a ***smoking *** deal.

blahel 01-29-2010 09:16 PM

hope your new endeavour goes well! Getting paid to quilt what a life!

Oklahoma Suzie 01-30-2010 05:00 AM

Well it has been a dream ;)>> maybe huh?? and another dream would be to move near my daughter in the next couple years and have a sewing room big enough to buy a machine to do this for others ;)> and myself. instead of sending them out. DREAM BIG !!

I am installing EQ5 today .. :) my sister donated it to me ;)>>

Oh that is a funny little piece I did for my son many years ago.. many... like in 1994. we owned a possum and did orphan care for years.. Chris loved his possum.. I am going to remake that one for a friend who also lost their son and he loved possums too I met her online.

Oh do you mean teepee ? my mom had it in her here at my place stash so really not sure.

I have sold quite a few quilts on eBay and no, you don't get your money back for the time and effort you put into it. But the way I look at it, I can't stop making quilts so any money I receive for them is a bonus. The people who buy them are not quilters so do not understand their true worth. Good luck.

Sorry you did not do well on ebay.. I am not going to do there ...............by the time you pay your fees etc as well it would not be worth it. I have two orders now.. and I also think I have tons of fabric and will make them and give away too so why not? I plan to charge more for bigger and customs orders. which I am confident will follow.

What size and price range were you in on a ebay?

JUNEC 01-30-2010 04:03 PM

I have some of the same nursery rhyme fabric. Thanks for the picture, if you don't mind I would like to use your idea for a child quilt. Your quilts are neat.

I have 2 Dobies too. They share the spotlight. My female will be 11 in May and my male will be 9 in May. My female is only 68 pounds but my boy is 128. Aren't they the greatest.
Would love to see pictures of yours.

fraserblack 01-30-2010 09:40 PM

Generally baby quilts. They go for about $40-$60 Australian. I had my fingers burnt with what I thought was a great child's applique quilt with trains on it. It took me forever and I was expecting about $150-$200 - it sold for $70. Needless to say the person who bought it absolutely loved it but for that price - Never again!!!

Pickles 01-30-2010 10:10 PM

Love your Quilts and wish you all the luck on your sells .
they are so pretty I'm sure you'll sell lots of them.
