Tale of Woe and Lesson learned .. I hope

I was quilting a friend's beautiful scrappy King size quilt yesterday. She's entered it in our guild show already. I was doing a boxed pebble design we though would highlight the hidden pattern.

I'm in love with my Clover air erasable pens and was using it to mark the diagonals on her quilt. HOWEVER.....carelessly, I picked up and used a permanent turquoise pen.
I thought I would vomit on the spot. I called her; we talked. At guild last night she brought me some extra material.
I've fixed it, by hand today. Other than the fact she knows, the only evidence is one visible diagonal seam that wasn't there before. I was worried more about her friendship, which is intact, than anything else.
It happened so fast (and though I offered her a freebie, she still willing to pay me)
Friendship good.
Pens BAD.

Now that is a real friend. She cares more about people than things. I am sure you were sick about your accident which truly was an accident. Your fix was well done.

Oh my!! I am glad you were able to fix it and that you didn't lose a friendship. Your fix is really a good one too. Real friends like this are rare. She is certainly a keeper.

What an awful moment that must have been! I doubt I will ever have the courage to quilt someone else's quilt, even if I should attain the requisite skill level, because of just this sort of possibility. Congratulations on an excellent rescue!

Excellent save. I have heard that Grandmas secret spot remover has gotten out sharpie permanent ink. This is just hearsay, thankfully I have not had to try it. Did you try anything on it before patching it?

No I didn't. It was on the quilting frame and partially quilted. To take it off and get it back on again would be a nightmare..

Great save! I purposely keep my permanent pens away from my sewing area. I have some Frixion pens that look very similar to my sharpie permanent markers and I thought I might do the same thing.

I almost did just that a couple of weeks ago. The pen didn't feel right in my hand and I caught myself just in time. I try to keep my permanent pens away from my work, but sometimes a person gets in a hurry and mistakes are made. She is a true friend and your save looks just great. Good luck to your friend in the judging, hope she gets a ribbon.

So GLAD that you were able to repair the mistake. It is SO EASY to pick up the wrong marker.
