I like the first but you won't be able to cut it that big, it would be a smaller cut, the second I don't think it will have very much variation in the blocks, I think it looks to much like itself, the third is more subtle but i think it would end up looking good and you wouldn't have to cut is as small as the first.

mimisharon 01-30-2010 11:44 AM

Do you think the stripe running through it will cause me distortion? I love the first one, but will save it for another. I thought the same thing with the second, but had enough to maybe get a top. I'll eliminate the second choice. Now it's one and three...?

cutebuns 01-30-2010 11:56 AM

I don't see the strip being an issue, though I could be wrong, we will be working with an equalateral triangle and with that I think you will be okay with it. It will mean more when you are at the point to put them together.

mimisharon 01-30-2010 01:51 PM

Ok, I'm going with the blue then. I love blue. :-P

cutebuns 01-30-2010 01:56 PM

I love Blue as well, there really isn't many colors that I don't like, there are how ever a few shades here and there that don't impress me,

did it work?

deranged_damsel 01-31-2010 10:03 AM

ok, the repeat is six inches, so the hexs will be very small right? also, I dont have a triangle ruler, I have the 60o diamond. will that work just as well?
thanks Cutebuns! Im sooooo looking forward to this :D

missgigglewings 01-31-2010 10:12 AM

Cute...I will be in a hotel on Monday in North Carolina. What is the bare necessities that I need to take along on my trip. I know the obvious is fabric, thread, scissors and my brand-spankin new Kaleidoscope Triangle Ruler. I do not want to miss any of this! Can you think of anything else. I will have my laptop with me of course! And the time this will take place.

Thanks for you help and for doing this!

Esqmommy 01-31-2010 12:12 PM

I think you'll need a cutting board and rotary cutter. Plus I think you'll need pins...but that's as much as I know.

missgigglewings 01-31-2010 12:38 PM

OK..I gues I didn't think this through...thanks

bailey 01-31-2010 06:13 PM

Only one more sleep ladies......then we can start trying to match up those 6 layers!!

cutebuns 01-31-2010 06:25 PM

Something to sandwich the pieces after they are cut so that they don't get messed up traveling. We are laying out and cutting tomorrow, you want to get them messed up, sorting them up would be horrible. Any ruler with a 60 degree to it will work.

If you have washed the fabric, they suggest not to, but okay if you did, I would consider starching it a bit to help stiffen it, I wouldn't normally advise this but in this case, matching it up may be easier.

Kyiav10 01-31-2010 06:37 PM

Cutebuns, I have some fabric that I think may work for this. I will take a picture tonight.

Is there anywhere I can get the book for cheaper than $14.59 + shipping? I will have to talk to hubby and see if it's ok. I will also have to get a ruler as I don't have one. Oh, boy, more money! Ahhhh. But I sooo want to do this with you all!

The Library's in my area do not have the book.

Ok, cutebuns, here is the fabric I am using. Ihave not measured it but I think there is about an 8 inch repeat. I have three yards of the fabric.

Esqmommy 01-31-2010 08:27 PM

Cutie, I have to work tomorrow, but I'll try to get home as early as I can so I can work on my OBW. What time are you posting? Any idea yet?

cutebuns 01-31-2010 08:33 PM

no clue as yet, I will probably start earlier than you are home just so that it isn't to late for the easterners, but will be on and off for a while, I hope to catch the most, but the good thing is that it isn't going anywhere,

cutebuns 01-31-2010 08:34 PM

I love the fabric, we will be going over again tomorrow how best to decide how big to cut your pieces to get the best look.

mimisharon 02-01-2010 04:44 AM

Will it be right here? I'm anxious...nervous...awake way to early in anticipation. Before 6 AM. boo-hiss

See my fabric below, do you think it will be ok?

The repeat is 12"

Your fabric choice should work nicely. It's better that the water has some movement to it and not just a solid blue. You'll see when you start putting your blocks together.

Geometric prints don't make as nice designs as those with curved shapes. Set your mirrors all over it to preview what you'll get for hexagons.

Also all those straight lines may give you issues when trying to match them up - curves are more 'forgiving'. Personally I wouldn't attempt an OBW with straight lines in the pattern. Just my opinion. :-D

cutebuns 02-01-2010 06:02 AM

I will be starting a new thread but will leave a link to it here so it will be easy to find. It is only 7 here and I am not out of bed yet. I will be soon. I have to warm up my sewing room etc before starting and some are not free until later. So I don't want to start to early or leave it to late either. No one wants to miss it. I hope to fall somewhere in the middle.

What is the repeat measurement along the length of #3?

Esqmommy 02-01-2010 06:04 AM

Cutie, I just remembered I have a meeting at 2pm today. So, I will probably have to wait until tomorrow to work on this. Fortunately, it'll be here, just sorry to miss all the activity and chatter! Oh well, gotta earn a living, right?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 06:30 AM

I imagine that we will have some chatter for a day or two so you won't miss all of it. I fully understand having to work. I will be around if you have any questions.

Esqmommy 02-01-2010 06:31 AM

Cool...I know you'll be there for me...what are friends for? I can'[t wait to see everyone's work, this is going to be fun. Get your tea and the fire going my dear!!!

cutebuns 02-01-2010 06:47 AM

I am not a morning person by any means. And don't pretend to be. I will be moving faster in a bit. Have to get dh up and moving as well. He has work today.

Esqmommy 02-01-2010 06:53 AM

I think my DH has an interview today...keep your fingers crossed :)

cutebuns 02-01-2010 07:04 AM

*jumping up and down for Mr Esqmommy*. I will have my fingers crossed.

OK....I am here in Charlotte NC. I decided to brng nothing at all. It was a big pile that I had no room for so I left it all. I am going to follow along and it will be somewhat familiar when I get home thursday! I love to learn new stuff! Thanks Cutebuns!

cutebuns 02-01-2010 08:59 AM

I will be around any time that you are doing it if you need more help than what has been shown as well.

Okay I am contemplating the following fabrics for this. Any input?
Hugs
April

cutebuns 02-05-2010 10:34 AM

I wouldn't do the second and the last one is a bit busy, the other ones are great.

Depending on the size of quilt that you would like, and the size of repeat, you are looking to have multiples of 6 of the repeats,

if it has a 24" repeat (2 feet) for 6 repeats you need 12 feet equals 4 yards, so if you need more you are looking to buy the fabric in multiples of that, so the next break would be 8 yards, of course with the different sizes of the repeats and what you are doing will depend on how much you will actually need.

LovingIzabella 02-05-2010 10:35 AM

Thank you so much Cute!

k3n 02-05-2010 10:35 AM

Hi April - I think #1 has too much plain background and the teddies are two small and far spaced. Not sure about the cowboy boots but the last two would be fabulous! If i had to pick one, I'd go for the tigers. :-D

LovingIzabella 02-05-2010 10:37 AM

K
I was leaning towards the last two to be quite honest lol
I will have to try the mirror and see which is better :-)Thanks for your input!
