Tea cup pincushion came home!
1 Attachment(s)
This morning I was getting ready to go to with DH to a flea market about an hour and half away. I picked up a bag of knitting and there was the pincushion in the bottom of the bag under some baby caps. I had decided that it had run away for ever but it came home. I had had a make-up quilting class on Thursday afternoon after my knitting class on Thursday morning. I had put the pincushion in the knitting bag when I took it from the car. I just didn't remember that I had taken it on Thursday! I would have found it next week when I got ready for the knitting class. Being an obsessive compulsive personality, I can't just ride in a car. I have to do something with my hands. The blue cup normally sits on my desk by my bed. The gold/white cup stays on the cutting table, and the pink on lives by the sewing machine.

You have some beautiful cups. Did you make the pincusions? I would love to make one or two out of some cups that belonged to my Mom. What do you stuff them with and what do you use to stick them into the cups? Do you glue the cups to the saucers? I guess I need a tutorial on this. Anyway, I'm so glad to hear that you found it.

really like your teacup pin cushions. I went to a quilt show last weekend where one of the booths was selling old salt cellar pin cushions. I like your idea better ... I won't lose the pin cushion on my sewing desk! I've found lots of teacups and saucers at thrift stores and garage sales at a real reasonable price, but it's usually feast (lots of variety) or famine (none can be found).

They are easy to do. I will do a tute on how to make them with pictures.
|
I had a girlfriend make me one several years ago. I was wondering where i was going to put it because i didn't want to risk breaking it downstairs in my sewing room. It sits on my dresser w/ some pins, needles, and safety pins. Perfect place!

They are terrific. I'll be watching for your tutorial. Glad you found your pincushion
|
So glad you found it!
|
Thank your for sharing the Tea Cup pinchusions, they are so pretty.
|
I was getting ready to make one of these gorgeous pincushions, but the darn cup has made in Occupied Japan on the bottom! Guess I'd better check it out first.
|
I am so glad you found your pincushion. It is very pretty and I look forward to your tutorial.
|
Glad it turned up safe and sound!

Thanks for sharing, Beckie |
Prettiest pin cushions ever ... and the saucer provides a nice place to set snippers, stitch rippers, etc.
|
Glad you found your pin cushion. I have a ton of bone china cups & saucers, all gifts. Excellent way to use them. Better than them just sitting in the china cabinet. They will make excellent gifts. Looking forward to your tute.

I made one of those teacup pincushions. The saucer was a little on the plain side so I added a small lace doily between the cup and saucer for a more Victorian look.

Did you glue it on, or leave it free so it could be laundered, as needed? |

those are really cute. I have a few dainty cup/saucer sets that are too small for the folks I know. Would make wonderful pin cushions. Like I need another project--------------right this minute I've got tissue covers and casserole carriers on my sewing table---------and I'm on here! |
I love these tea cup pin cushions! Looking forward to the tutorial.

Lovely tea cup pin cushions. I am so glad you found the missing one. I will look forward to the tute....What section will you place it in? I ave some old demi-tasse cups and saucersthat were my moms, but of course there is a cup or two missing in each set, I'm sure they were broken or cracked years ago. I think these would make wonderful little friendship gifts. Thanks for sharing.

So glad you found your pincushion, looking forward to reading your tute.....I want to make one too !!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I glued the doily between the cup and saucer. Never thought about leaving it free to be laundered. Now I have yucky thoughts of the doily being dusty! I'll have to take a look.

I will be looking forward on your tutorial - I LOVE cups and saucers. It would be nice to make a pin cushion or 2 for me and friend or two.

I can so relate to what you are saying. I am exactly the same way. Got to be doing something all the time. When I could not quilt due to a bad injury, I took up making Baby caps for the hospital and making pin cushions out of cup/saucers and various flea market knick knacks. Didn't see where you said you made the pin cushions or bought them. Here are a couple of my favorite pin cushions. I love yours. Did you apoxy the cup to the saucer? I didn't read where you said you were going to do a tutorial. I am really looking forward to seeing how others do their pin cushions. I think that is a great idea.
Whenever I clean out my sewing/craft room, it is like going to a flea market or thrift store. I find a lot of things that I had forgotten I even had. I also have to take knitting, crocheting or hand work of some kind with me wherever I go. It is an obsession, but is nice to know I am not alone. So glad you found your pin cushion.
This morning I was getting ready to go to with DH to a flea market about an hour and half away. I'm glad your pin cushion came home! And looking forward to your tutorial. And...I have a set of dishes like the blue and white ones - from my dear Mom :-D
|
I was wondering if you asked Tony or St Anthony for help or did you just luck out. Maybe you need to make a traveling one so you will know where it is and not have to use your stay-at-home pin chusions.
|
Glad the missing pin cushion was found. They are very pretty. Will try to watch for your tutorial.

Very clever idea!

I'm like most of you on this board, I have to be creating something all the time. If no I'm playing Sudoku or crossword puzzles.
In my half Swedish family it was a tradition to give A bride tea cups and saucers when she was married. i received a dozen then. Over the years, I've inherited and been given more. One day I counted them and found out that I had 36. We have 8 grandchildren, 4 boys and four girls. 36 divided by 8 gave me 4 to give to each grandchild when they marry. I also give them clear glass dessert plates and a note explaining the tradition. Since I'm keeping 4 it looks like I'll have to use one of mine and make a pincushion. I love your idea! |
Glad to know your pincushion came home.

OMG! That blue cup is just like some I had. Fond memories. I got the whole set of dishes with S&H green stamps around 1975. I think I sold them at a garage sale back in the '80s because I got tired of blue. (But I still love blue so not sure what I was thinking) Love your pin cushions!
|
Darling idea. I received severl cups and saucers from a favorite aunt. This will be a nice way to use them, and she'll be in my thoughts every time I look at them!
|
Love your teacup pincushions. Can hardly wait for the tute. Do you glue the cup to the saucer?
|
I have made a couple of the pincushion using the cup and saucers. I was lucky to find a couple of the cup and saucer sets with the saucer being larger to hold your cookies etc on it. I used these and they are wonderful to use in the sewing area. There is extra room for your other notions.
|
Lovely teacups and a great idea to make use of the pretties. I have decided to do this with a few that I inherited --- going to use the florist clay that is waterproof to gob the cup to the saucer and then will make a snug cushion using wool roving to stuff it and probably use a bit of candle snugger wax to attach it to the cup. I think this way the cups will be usable for their original intent if desired down the road. At almost 60 I am trying to think of ways my family heirlooms might be useful as well as decorative and other people may repurpose them later. With glue I might be committing the cup to the trash bin as not everyone in the family sews.
|
Love the use of a teacup as a pincushion! I have teacups from aunts on both sides of the family. The look pretty sitting in a cupboard...but it would be nice to have one out to use a pincushion too. Will have to decide which one to use, then wait for your tutorial. Thanks for doing one!
|
I'm glad you found your teacup pincushion. I also have to keep my hands busy or I read. Looking forward to your tute.
|
LOVE all three of them. Glad you found the one you were missing. I will also be watching for your tutorial as I would love to make a couple of them. They look so very elegant. Thanks for sharing.
