My mil gave me a unfinished quilt the last time we visited to finish. Which has such a great little story. It's a beautiful quilt and once I finish I will post a pic.
It seems that her step daughters mother had started this quilt before she passed away. And my mil has had this quilt for years setting in a box waiting until she could find someone to finish it. The step daughter asked her one day if her mother had left any quilts. My mil told her no. Not to be mean, but because she knew that this quilt wasn' t finished and the step daughter would need to find somone to do it, and my mil was afraid she never would. So she asked me if I would finish for her to give to the step daughter for Christmas. This step daughter is going to be blown away when she sees this, and knows that it was something her mother had been working on. I told my mil, that I would finish it. And when done I would make a label that says something about being from the mother to the daughter on it. I wish I was going to get to see this moment of passing on the quilt. But just hearing about it will most likely make my day. The backing on this quilt is all white muslin and the top is light colors. And there isn't one spot on this quilt so it has been taken very good care of in the mean time. Don't you just love when someone actually takes care of quilts? Tammy |
Oh she will be so surprised when she receives the quilt. And she will know that it was made out of love. :) Can't wait to see a picture of the quilt when it is all done. :)

I'm with you I would love to see the moment she receives the quilt.

Beautiful story. A couple of years ago, I secretly got a quilt that my daughter had started 15 years ago and took it to my house and finished it, had it quilted and put on binding for Christmas. She was so pleased and I know this young woman will be thrilled.
|
You are the so sweet to complete this quilt. It will be a tresure.

What a wonderful story and aren't you the lucky one to be part of it. Enjoy the finishing and the giving.

Tell your MIL to take a picture of the surprise if she can. Then you can somewhat share the moment. If not, I'm sure you'll get a warm fuzzy feeling just hearing about her reaction. Any quilter can appreciate the loving gift this will be.
|
Oh how wonderful! Someone should video the surprise. I think the young woman would appreciate that memory too. It's a sweet thing that you are doing.

The daughter will be so thrilled. And this is super of you to finish it for her. I just finished a quilt for a neighbor who's mother passed before finishing it. I know how good you are feeling to be able to do this.

Tell your mil to be sure to get pictures of her unwrapping/receiving the quilt and to share them with you. Next best thing to not being there.

Maybe they will video it for you.

What a wonderful thing for you to do. I do love it when the quilts are taken care of. I have 3 that my mother gave me that have seen so much better days and it makes me so sad.
