I've made four of these and just use the very lightest iron interfacing I can find. It's just to keep the knit from stretching while cutting and quilting. Use a hobby lobby or Joann's coupon is always helpful.

I used a French fuse for my first and featherweight for the second. I preferred the featherweight, it just had a softer feel and seems lighter....

I think French fuse is another name for fusible nylon tricot.

Now the question is...

Do I cut and fuse the interfacing the same size as shirt or do I make ir larger/smaller? I can't seem to find a go-to pattern for a mosaic tee shirt quilt since you kinda of piece this baby together and see where what fits...LOL. What I was going to do was pin the interfacing to the tee shirt, fuse, then cut the squares to the sizes I need...? I have all sizes shirts and patterns. Some shirts are medium, some small xsmall. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I made a quilt with Red Cross donation t shirts. the only thing i dont like is that is looks all wrinkly after it is washed and dried. Any solution for this besides ironing it after each wash??

T-shirts have more stretch side to side than up and down. Tricot fusible (Joann's Fuse Knit) also stretches one way more than the the other. If you reverse the two, it will stabilize the block.

I cut my shirt front larger than I need it...and then put the interfacing onto the back of it..making sure it covers slightly more area than you need. Then When I cut the shirt down to size, the interfacing is smack-dab to the edge already...didn't have to do any exact measuring.

When I made mine, I cut out the front of the shirt, fused the interfacing and then cut to size. I had bought a pattern that had a flimsy plastic template in it. So I went to Lowes and had a plexiglass one made. Worked really well. I just did a block with sashing and then tied them. Good luck with your quilt!
