I am not familiar with the Emma, but I have a Designer I ESS and a Sapphire 850 by Husq/Viking and wouldn't trade them out for the world, they are wonderful workhorses for me! :)

I have a HV Designer I USB Emb Machine that is 4 yrs old & I couldn't be happier. Your Emma looks like it is missing a slide-on portion that attachs & surrounds the Needle/Bobbin area. Did your FIL send other parts? Ask him if there was another part. It might be with other parts of the MIL's sewing supplies. It would contain more Sewing Feet. I would say you have a jewel on your hand. Check for a Dealer in your area & ask questions. It would be a good idea to take it in so they can see if it needs a check up. Happy Sewing Days ahead.

My husband's grandmother had a Viking that she "gave away" to a friend of her late son's. I know she spent about $4K on it when she bought it 8-10 years ago, I never saw it so I don't know if it was an Emma, but I know it was not a big machine. Vikings are not cheap by any means and they will last and last and last. I was quite envious when I heard she gave it away but my Bernina 730E was a great consolation.

Wow how lucky you are. I have always owned Pfaffs; have three and now Pfaff, Viking and Singer are all owned by http://www.svpworldwide.com/ - I have a Pfaff embroidery machine and I know that the .hus format will embroidery out on my Pfaff as well as the .pcs and the .vip formats.

I am impressed with all the wonderful reviews on the Vikings for I had always heard they are really nice machines.

oh you are so lucky!! you will love it, especially the large expanse between the motor part and the needle. my viking is over 50 years old and I still use it.

Well, now you have me curious. I'll check into this part you're talking about. As far as the accesories (sp), the bag was never opened! She used it once to sew on a button.

I played with it the other day and it was great. Played again yesterday and the top tension is way off now. Any suggestions? I tried adjusting it with no luck so today I will rethread and put in a new bobbin. No dust collection in bobbin area yet so that's not it. Hope I can figure it out.
