Ten yards at $7.00 total..
1 Attachment(s)
Thrift store find...cat loves it....not sure her Mom does but I did buy it. How could I not! Any suggestions on how I can use it in a quilt will be appreciated.
Maybe use it for a backing. It has a very big pattern to it,so it will be differ cult.
Yep--backing. Great find.
the smaller you cut it the better it looks......great bargain!
Backing is a great idea. Also you could cut it into small pieces & put with other fabrics for scrappy quilts...you should definitely make a cat mat/quilt for her/him. :)
I think backing won on this one!
Use it as a "fronting"; use a different maybe solid as a backing, and then quilt around the design in the WONDERFUL rose-colored fabric!
It really reminds me of bark cloth drapes from the '40s-'50s with their fabulous tropical designs. That fabric is very "cher" these days --- check them out on eBay. Reminds me to find a way to use mine that I collected several years ago!! Jan in VA |
I think it would make a wonderful backing. If it is a commercial print with repeated motif spacing, I would take the time to match the pattern. You certainly have enough yardage!
If you love it, just quilt it as a wholecloth piece, as Jan suggested. Start by quilting around the leaves, then if you think it needs more you can quilt some "filler" pattern on the pink. With ten yards you probably have enough for a quilt AND some matching curtains... or valances, at least. Great find!
Pretty whatever you do with it. Post pic when done. Would be interesting to see what you come up with.
That would be awesome for backing on quilts made with Hawaiian prints or modern fabrics. I am always short on backing fabric. Congratulations on your find.

I agree, backing. You could even use the outline of the leaves as your quilt marking if that would look good on the quilt top you pair it with!

Jan, just reminding me of "bark cloth" makes my stomach queasy. I just couldn't stand those fabrics.
It's colorful!!! Would make interesting backing... But a bargain is a bargain, right?!!!
Backing for Hawaiian quilt!
I agree with Jan. it is great fabric! I loved bark cloth and wish I had kept it for bags!
I would use it for backing, maybe on some baby quilts.
I would do the burn test first to see what quality of fabric it is.
Would it work for kaleidoscope blocks?
Thanks for all your responses. I had not wanted to use it as a backing because the print seems tooooo loud BUT, after all your suggestions, may change my mind. I surely do have enough! I do have some Hawiian fabrics I may match up with it. Again, thanks for your help.

Is the pattern to large for a stack and whack??????
My vote is for backing and any leftovers cut in 2.5" strips for binding or jelly roll race quilts.

I can see it as a perfect backing, or fussy cut the ferns; great find.
I would love to have a sundress from that prize!
Are the designs regular enough for a kaleidoscope quilt?
Do you make totes? That would work, too!
I like Jan's idea also.
Can't wait to see what you decide to do with your beautiful fabric. |
I also vote for the backing. Or, do some Hawaiian Quilting with the big leaves and all. Hawaiian was very popular around here about 10 yrs. ago. I love the look!

My first thought was a backing for something with batiks! How about Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple Blossom? http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...e-blossom.html
Wow what a great find. Whatever you decide to do with it will be lovely. It is very pretty fabric.

I would be making a moomoo out of that fabric with some trim the same color as that blue. I had 4 of them I made when I lived n Hawaii. They are sooooooooooo comfortable in the heat. I wore them out and mde 4 more to use as a lounger in Alaska. They are very cool if it is cotton.

How about a log cabin quilt using white for the light side
Backing forsure.
Make a pretty backing, or use it in a scrappy. The size of the print would make it seem to be several different fabrics,
