Testing Poll

testing a new feature we might add.
If you cast a vote, please post a comment telling us why you made the selection you did.

bearisgray 02-14-2018 11:21 AM

I think polls are fun - providing the question(s) are unbiased and I know something about the topic.

quiltingcandy 02-14-2018 11:29 AM

I believe polls are good - you learn your audience likes and dislikes. Not that you are trying to please everyone, but you have an idea what people want.

Macybaby 02-14-2018 11:38 AM

I have no problem voting on a poll, but have no desire to create my own.

QuiltnNan 02-14-2018 11:45 AM

i don't participate in polls, not that they are bad

rryder 02-14-2018 11:54 AM

I seldom take part in polls. I'm not sure how I'd use a polling feature on QB, but not completely ruling out the possibility that someone else might find it useful.

KalamaQuilts 02-14-2018 12:31 PM

not at all. too few people take part to make a sensible response verdict

eparys 02-14-2018 12:42 PM

My first thought was to click "Least" - butafter some thought I could see a use for a poll if someone had two fabrics that they are auditioning for a border, or if they had several layouts for a quilt. Oftentimes you have to sift through 5 pages of comments to read if members who have an opinion like option a or b.

So I think it would be a useful tool!

melodyr 02-14-2018 12:46 PM

I'm with eparys...I like the idea of letting folks vote on things like borders and layouts.

cathyvv 02-14-2018 01:29 PM

they really serve no purpose.

PaperPrincess 02-14-2018 01:40 PM

I'd be interested in some general questions: pre washer? Steam? LQS/Big Box? etc!

gigi712 02-14-2018 01:57 PM

I've belonged to several forums, not necessarily quilting ones and it's always been fun. I'd love to have one.

Tartan 02-14-2018 01:58 PM

I clicked maybe as I would have to see if it interested me first.

Geri B 02-14-2018 02:21 PM

N point to it here......questions are asked and answered now, who needs a poll, and would that really make a decision correct.....

pchp 02-14-2018 02:22 PM

It could be a way to get quick feedback if I were trying to decide between two border fabrics, for example.

tallchick 02-14-2018 02:56 PM

I think for those that like feedback for borders, colors etc. it will be great, and allow those that may not want to type a response to participate, and those that have a different idea or suggestion can still provide their input as well. I would love to see polls.

Kassaundra 02-14-2018 03:03 PM

It would be a very rare thing for me to answer a poll, and I can't even imagine why I would ever create one on the QB. I have no opinion about adding it as a feature though, I have nothing against others making or commenting on polls.

joe'smom 02-14-2018 03:06 PM

I chose the second option. I've never created a poll, but I've responded to them, and they can be fun.

NZquilter 02-14-2018 03:12 PM

Maybe, I don't mind giving my vote at times, and I can see how it can be fun for some. But sometimes I feel like its a waste of time and a rather impersonal way of asking for advice, or simply seeing members as statistics instead of friends. I know some members here who would take surveys and run with them, lol!

I'm with Macybaby & cashs_mom, No problem voting on a poll but no desire to create one.

Kitsie 02-14-2018 04:08 PM

I'd rather have a "like - dislike" or "yes - no" with a comment optional. I believe you would get many more responses as some do not (now) like to write a reply but would be OK to click a yes/no type.

Cactus Stitchin 02-14-2018 04:11 PM

Polls would make a lot of sense for members looking for feedback on border options, block layouts, or other design options they are considering. I would prefer not to have polls on some of the “general interest” or personal questions and I would probably would not respond to those questions. Not sure how the polls would be handled - if members would be setting up the polls or if it would be an added task for administrators.

This. Also I used a poll on another board to sound out a friend's favorite colors before I made her a comfort quilt. It was answered by most people on the board, but it was Catbird's answers that I was looking for.

My thoughts exactly.

Teen 02-14-2018 05:13 PM

For the board, I would vote (not create, so much).... Other polls I ignore since people can cast multiples votes and the results would have no integrity. But on the board? Sure..However, I like reading the comments since the reasoning behind suggestions are often explained.

Jingle 02-14-2018 06:13 PM

I would not like a poll, doubt I would use it much.

sewingsuz 02-14-2018 06:23 PM

Yes i would use this if I was interested in the subject.

wesing 02-14-2018 06:42 PM

I think people might answer a poll question when they wouldn't post a comment.

quiltingshorttimer 02-14-2018 06:44 PM

when a poster wants feedback on which border, etc a poll makes a lot of sense. Otherwise I can't really think of a way to use it. I don't often ask for that type of feedback, so that's why I checked maybe.

Terry in the ADK 02-14-2018 06:55 PM

Not sure it would serve much purpose but go for it if majority want it.....just make it a separate section, please.

This was almost exactly my thinking.
And, I think there are some "lurkers" who don't post a lot of commentary, but who might respond more readily to a poll.

I said 'least' because I prefer the way we do it now, as a discussion, rather than an unexplained vote. I see no need to create a polling feature. People already poll the members in a thread where they ask their question.

MaryMo 02-14-2018 10:05 PM

I wonder how the polls would be used or if they would be used to soft sell items or tutorials.

petthefabric 02-14-2018 11:12 PM

I don't see a need. However, I'm open to considering it.

those would absolutely not be allowed.

DebbieJJ 02-15-2018 01:59 AM

I don't like answering polls, so I wouldn't be interested in creating one either.

I think members are already posting when they are looking for feedback or ideas...and I enjoy reading their comments and responses. Looking at the Poll given in this thread, I don’t see any room for a typed response only a vote so I’m not sure I would use it.

ArtsyOne 02-15-2018 03:43 AM

I wouldn't be interested in creating one, but I would respond to one asking for opinions on a particular border or layout. When I ask for design help, though, I like the comments from people because they force me to think outside the box and consider options I didn't know existed.
