Thank You Everyone!!!
Hi Everyone,
In my last new thread, I asked if it is ok to not quilt my tops. I had so many wonderful responses filled with inspiration and kind thoughts for my DH. You have all lifted my spirits and have let me know it is ok to do only what I love. I am not very advanced in my quilting yet. Still I do love it because I have loved to sew since I was a little girl. I am learning as I go along and am willing to try all aspects of it. It is just that I haven't mastered the sandwiching part yet. I have decided to just keep on learning new blocks and techniques that I find here on the board, on YouTube and on other sites like Missouri Star Quilt Company. I have joined their forum, but I enjoy this one the best. I feel at home here. :) I want to share our good news with you. We found out today that my DH's PET Scan showed that his cancer has not spread beyond the lungs where it matastisized to from his renal cell cancer in 2007. He still has one more test to go. He will have his bronchoscopy next Wednesday to see if it has invaded his airways. We will get the results of that the following week. The week after that we will decide on our plan of action with his oncologist. It may or may not mean more chemo. Today, we went fabric shopping between doctor appointments. First JoAnn's and then Hobby Lobby. I didn't buy anything then. We left and got lunch at O'Charley's to celebrate our good news. We then visited a book store. I couldn't find a quilting book I wanted. So we went back to Hobby Lobby and I bought fabric that I had fallen in love with the moment I saw it the first time we were there today. I had been saving my birthday money from my Mom for over a month to buy something special. I thought about the fabric and decided that since it was Winnie the Pooh and I love Winnie the Pooh, it was just the special thing for me. I got 2 yards. I looked for coordinating fabrics and found a soft green with white polka dots (I love polka dots) and a soft gold the color of Winnie for the top. I glanced up and further down the aisle and spotted just the right flannel stripe for the back. It really was a day of celebration. So thank you all so much for responding to my question and for all of your wonderful offers to help me with finishing one of my quilts. You have given me the support I needed to get through to myself that it is ok to sew what I love and not worry about the rest of it. I now have special fabric and a plan of action that will get me out of my slump and back to quilting. I am going to take my time before I start on my special baby quilt that will be just for me. Unless a new great-grand baby comes along and I just can't resist giving my quilt as a gift in my family. They all love my sewing that I am always giving to all of them. :):):) |
That is wonderful news.

I am so glad you are feeling better about your quilting and that you had a good day looking at fabric, buying fabric, and finding out the good news from your husband's test. Now, don't make this your "last new thread." All your friends here like hearing from you!!

Thank you Judy and what a nice thing to say Dina. No wonder I feel so at home here. :):):)

Oh, that is good news regarding your DH. Be sure to post pics of your projects. We love pics!!
Hoping for continued good news for your DH ~ congratulations on the good report today & on the fabric shopping etc.
You and your DH will continue to be in my prayers.
There are lots and lots of quilters who make tops. And only tops. They keep longarmers in business! Please. Never feel guilty for doing what gives you pleasure: someday you will either learn how to sandwich and quilt or you will find a longarmer who will trade finishing your quilts with a quilt top for same. :) |
That is such great news! Continued prayers for you both.

Yes, that is good news--both in in not feeling guilty and the news so far about DH!
Be sure to post your Winnie the Pooh top when finished. I knew that teenage girls sometimes love him, but so far hadn't met any adult ladies fascinated with him, but I must admit, I do like all the A A Milne characters. I've got some fabric that I've collected here and would love great ideas for finishing something with that theme. |
So happy for you! It is such a lovely feeling when some worry is lifted from our shoulders. You now have the "space" to be creative. I will pray for you and your DH. Happy quilting!
Thank you for taking the time to share your good news. I hope he continues to pass all tests with flying colors and your quilt will be a special remembrance of a happy day.
All your news sounds like good news! I am so happy for you and can't wait to see your special quilt.
Great news!
That is good news and I hope and pray for good news on the next tests.
I Love reading your GOOD news. I'm glad this was a good day. Will pray for better days ahead. Keep up posted!
Great news. Keep your spirits up.
So happy for you and your DH on the good news, my prayers will continue for you...I love Winnie the Pooh, but haven't seen any material, so off to Hobby Lobby I will go today...Please keep us posted of the results..
I am so glad foryour good news!!!!
Wonderful news about DH. Also, remember that quilting is YOUR hobby and you can do it any way you want to. There are no quilt police. Maybe as you progress, you'll find a quilting friend who only likes to do the quilting part and you can swap services.
So glad to hear your good news. Maybe if everyone on the QB prays for your DH it will bring more good news.
The power of prayer is a magical & powerful thing. Blessings to you & your family & best wishes for better news to come. |
Congratulations on the good news and good luck on your "Pooh" quilt.
Praying the good news continues! Sounds like the making of a great quilt .....don't you love when you can find all the
fabric in one stop! |
A good friend of my husband's is going through some of what you mentioned about your dh. Most of his news has been good also. He's waiting on the brain scan now to see if his cancer has spread in that direction. Congratulations on your good news. Blessings as you continue to deal with his health issues. (Glad you found some great fabric.)
Great test results on your husband and our prayers for continued good news. I love Pooh too. Our grand daughter, who is four, hauls out all the characters when she comes for a visit. Hobby Lobby has some great choices in fabrics not found elsewhere so congratulations on your find. Can't wait to hear about your progress and see the results in photos. Good luck on your new quilting adventure!
Congratulations to you both on your good news and on your purchase of wonderful fabric. Do continue to post as you complete tops. Not all of us are quilters; some are just piecers or appliquers but that's where we get our joy. Keep talking to us.
That is wonderful news. You might want to find an applique project that you can work on at Dr visits. I just went through all this with my DH, and sometimes it takes a long time. Kept my hands and mind busy, and I finished a couple of really nice pieces. "Some good comes from even the worst of times"
Great news about the material and good news aboutyu DH. Will continue to pray for both of you, God can work wonders. My ex-SIL had colon CA and her church and alot of others prayed for her and when she went to Dr. to see about surgery, he found it was gone. And she has seen test and it had been there, but she has very strong faith and works answering a prayer line so faith in God to heal. My DH has had CA 3 different kinds, vocal cord, prostrate and skin and at 80 is CA free and doing fine. Let us hear from you and how things are going and pictures please.
Hugs, Carol |
I will be praying for you and your DH. My prayers will be that all the test will result in good news. Playing with pretty fabric and making the quilt tops you like to make is a great stress reliever. Please keep posting on how he is doing.
Prayers go out for you and your husband, may all news be better news.
That's GREAT news! Prayers are answered!
Great news! God bless you both
Great news and I hope that it continues for your DH.
Enjoy making your special quilt. Please show us the photos of your progress. |
Wonderful news - quilting has helped me get through alot. There are alot of us survivors, and family of survivors - remember you are in good company, quilters are the best. Take care, and hug the DH for me.
Will be praying for wisdom for the doctors and the Lord's Hand in his appt and test results.
So glad your DH (and you) got good news. Also glad your found the "perfect" fabric for a good shopping day. Still praying for you and hubby!
