Thanks for the inspiration, a first for me!

When there's time, I peruse the Archive (bottom link on the full web page). I've found the next five projects I want to do of course while I'm still finishing my last project, right? The One Block Wonder...I couldn't resist! Simple shapes, no scary curves, the effect of a fussy cut (sort of) without the pain? I'm in!
I found this fabric fairly inexpensively and decided this will be my 'practice' OBW. When I have this one under my belt I've got plans for something truly pretty. I'm so excited though, what fun!! |
wow, looks great

Yes. I do find other projects to do while working on one. HAHA! Great job!

Oh this is going to be beautiful! I've admired many of the OBW finishes and yours is sure to be lovely!

Holy smokes, that is wonderful

Wow, wow, wow! Now you have me wanting to make a OBW. Onto the bucket list it goes. I will need to find "just" the right fabric. Aw shucks, more fabric shopping??? LOL Thanks for posting that gorgeous quilt.
|
Wow, that's beautiful!
|
That's gorgeous!
|
Gorgeous!!! Isn't it fun to just play with new techniques and designs etc? This is on my bucket list so i would welcome any advice, hints etc. that you are willing to share. This is going to be stunning when done...

Looks like you really enjoyed the OBW...it is beautiful.
|
Love it! so beautiful
|
Awesome! Love it and the colors
|
Lovely quilt! I think it was a great use of that fabric.
|
Looks amazing, not something I would make but I certainly appreciate it.
|
Wow! Beautiful quilt!

To assist you in choosing fabrics for a OBW, type oneblockwonderdesignhelper into google. It's free. Open fabric on bolt, take a pic, go to design helper and import pic, change fabric width to 20" if pic is taken with fabric folded on bolt, and make and then make hexies. You get a preview of what your quilt will look like. Very helpful as some fabrics I thought would work great turned out to opbe only so-so. Happy Quilting!

I love your OBW, I am also addicted to them. So far I've only finished one top, but have fabric for several more. I am not so good at picking fabric as you are and I've started two only to be unhappy with not having enough contrast in my blocks.
I also love making 4PP and have been more successful with them. lol |

Wow, love this.

That was a terrific fabric for this technique. Your blocks turned out wonderful. This looks like more than just a practice piece!

I am truly amazed! It looks wonderful.

Wow, this will be beautiful!!
I really love the concept, especially for using up stash that I'm no longer in love with. As long as you like the colour palette, it seems like you can really disguise the pattern. Great stashbusting idea. |
You've chosen wonderful fabric for this quilt. It's just beautiful.
|
I love the fabric and it looks great.

I've never tried a 1-block wonder such as this as I always thought due to the fussy cutting that there is a lot of wasted fabric. Is there? Just curious as I see such beautiful quilts made from them like yours.

I'm told if you can also close down on waste by measuring how long your 'repeat' of fabric is, and from there divide that by the width of the triangle pieces you intend to use, you can figure out if it will create much waste, i.e. if the repeat is evenly divisible by whatever the width of triangle you're using. I randomly used the standard 3.75 on my fabric, and the only real waste I have is where I screwed up and cut the edges unevenly! Even so, I can use those pieces...re-cut them evenly a bit smaller, and make some smaller triangles which I'll use on the border of the quilt. I think the pattern makes very good use of yardage though it takes 6 repeats to do. |
Ohhh, that is beautiful, I love it! OBW is on my list of quilt patterns to try. I'm rather intimidated by it for some reason. I think I'm most worried about picking the right fabric.

Dawn, use this link then...http://oneblockwonder.com/design-helper/#
You can 'test' out a fabric pattern first! Plus, it's a lot of fun to just play with! ;) |
Well thanks for the encouragement, all! Now that I'm sewing on a machine that isn't frustrating, I've actually made progress! It's kind of taking over the design wall... 😁
