Themed Fabric Collections

1 Attachment(s)
Earlier this year I was lucky to be gifted a fabric collection with a theme of dots. She also gave me the book by Mary Mashuta titled Confetti Quilts. She marked a couple of pages in the book with quilts she had planned on making and I'm in the process of making one of the quilts. Until now, I had not been collecting themed fabric, but now, I can't stop collecting dots.

What kind of themed fabric to do you collect and can't get enough of?

That is such a fun quilt! I find I'm really drawn to dots, as well. I've been trying to restrain myself, thinking I might have too many dots... but since you posted this fabulous pic, I may just let myself go completely dotty!

Moonglow 12-26-2012 09:12 PM

Wow! Bright and cheery. Love it.

Central Ohio Quilter 12-26-2012 09:45 PM

That quilt is just SO cute! I love it!

I have been collecting insect themed fabric and candy themed fabric. Some day I will get a quilt made from them.

Gee that is lovely.

Tartan 12-26-2012 09:59 PM

Your polka dots are going o make a great quilt! The only theme I've collected is for an I Spy quilt.

DebraK 12-26-2012 10:19 PM

not really themed, but I enjoy collecting Kaffe Fassett fabrics when I find them on sale.

GrannieAnnie 12-26-2012 10:47 PM

Not too crazy about the pattern, but I do love the dots.

They're my vice too - particularly OOP old ones. I usually find mine on eBay. :)

sewbeadit 12-27-2012 12:55 AM

I collect horse fabrics. I also collect by designer. Laurel Burch, Kaffe Fassett, etc. Your dot quilt is beautiful.

QuiltnNan 12-27-2012 02:35 AM

LOL! Me too, and they multiply like rabbits!

Seriously though, I am a sucker for butterflies. I find them very hard to resist. I hope to do a quilt all in butterflies one day, when I collect enough.

sandyl 12-27-2012 03:29 AM

I love dots, too. Which could explain my attachment to circles......I love your quilt to be. It's a fun, colorful quilt with dots!!!

auntpiggylpn 12-27-2012 03:44 AM

I think your quilt is lovely! I collect fabric with pigs on it. Also I am drawn to fabrics with birds. I do collect by designer too. I love Alexander Henry fabrics and I have a pretty good collection of Heather Ross fabrics ( her older stuff not the Munki Munki)

rush88888 12-27-2012 04:08 AM

i collect black and white and white and black fabric (nothing that shows up as gray). i have about 5 see-through plastic containers that are full, and i will continue. now, i just have to make a few quilts...lol

Sandygirl 12-27-2012 04:28 AM

I collect Hot air balloon prints, route 66, dog prints, landscape.

 Love your dotty quilt. I collect lots of themes--Santas especially. When I first started quilting, I bought lots of FQs from eBay with various fun animals for Linus quilts--flamingoes, dogs, cats, pigs, frogs, Peanuts. I also have some plaids and stripes and lately have found myself picking up dots with a thought of someday combining them in a quilt. Of course, I have to get some planned others done first.

alikat110 12-27-2012 05:17 AM

Great quilt....I don't collect a theme....any fabric I am drawn too ends up in my stash....as well as complimentary ones to make some quilt top in the future.

hockeymom14 12-27-2012 05:57 AM

I never really thought about it but I guess I collect hockey fabric. I have already made him 1 hockey quilt and am finishing up #2. I have enough for maybe 2 more bed sized ones, guess I need to restock LOL.

pinkcastle 12-27-2012 06:32 AM

I seem to be collecting Halloween fabric. I'm just drawn to it. Perhaps that's because it's my favorite holiday. I have a storage box full of it, but have yet to make one quilt! Too many other projects to do first. So....someday! In the meantime, I keep telling myself not to buy anymore. Like that's going to happen!

Greenheron 12-27-2012 06:51 AM

Snake Skin pattern.......I'd like to make a Snake in the Hollow quilt with realistic fabric.

Jackie Spencer 12-27-2012 07:04 AM

I love your quilt!!!! I collect polka dots, plaids, stripes (love them for bindings, cut on the bias) snowmen fabrics, autumn themed fabrics, OMG I think I love them all! My favorite fabric line is Moda's Kansas Troubles.

Scissor Queen 12-27-2012 07:25 AM

I seem to collect Valentine fabric. But I'm not a Valentine Day fan at all. My other major weakness seems to be poinsettia fabric. I love real poinsettias and would fill my house with them at Christmas except they're expensive and they die.

quiltstringz 12-27-2012 07:39 AM

I don't know if it is considered Theme - but I can't quit buying Black & White

Threadbanger 12-27-2012 07:53 AM

Beutiful quilt! I love fabric with stars. I just can't stop. Blue fabric with stars? Sure, I'll take some even though I've got plenty of blue fabric with stars already!

kuseta 12-27-2012 08:37 AM

I collect Halloween fabrics. My mom keeps feeding this habit too! A Halloween Farmer's Wife quilt is in progress.

I'm also collecting chickens right now. I was given a chicken panel, so looking for other things to go with it.

Frogs also find their way into my stash. They make great shorts that embarrass my kids!

redquilter 12-27-2012 08:48 AM

That is a fantastic quilt. So bright and lively! I collect '30's repros, candy theme and fruits/veggies. I may even make a quilt or two someday! :)

cowgirlquilter 12-27-2012 09:01 AM

Love love love all the dots!!!!!!!!

crafty pat 12-27-2012 09:03 AM

I love your dots. They are so pretty. I collect bird and butterfly fabrics, have to have some of everyone I see.

Mid-1800s reproduction fabrics, also known as Civil War fabrics.

RDM 12-27-2012 10:23 AM

I LOVE that quilt and Mary Mashuta's book. I started collecting dots after seeing them used in Freddy Moran quilts. I also collect Kaffe fabrics and do a monthly Kaffe Club from Island Quilters shop (a local). I love bright & colorful to offset Pacific NW cloudy days.

dash2000lbs 12-27-2012 10:29 AM

Luv polka dots!!!

Of course I have to keep feeding your habit. lol Can't wait to see your HFW. I love that you embarass your kids--that's a mom's job!

I'm a flannel fanatic. I have a huge collection of flannels. I think they make such soft cozy quilts.

I'd like to do HUGE appliqued butterflies that are made of butterfly fabric---------but I don't know if it will ever happen

karenpatrick 12-28-2012 04:30 AM

I'm collecting florals. I want to make a log cabin quilt with nothing but florals. There have been a few quilts posted here on the Quilting Board that knocked my socks off and I want to make one. But I want many, many florals so it's taking me some time. And... I've taken a pledge not to buy any fabric in 2013. Oh well....

coopah 12-28-2012 04:55 AM

Pretty quilt! i collect fabric with cats. :-) The stash sits under my bed with no plans to use it!!

JanBar 12-28-2012 05:13 AM

I'm into dots myself, but your color combination makes your quilt look so mature and adult while mine always look so juvenile! I love it!

lots2do 12-28-2012 05:26 AM

Wow...what a quilt. I love snowflake fabric and snowmen. Maybe some day when we live in Florida, I'll make a winter quilt just for fun!

lizzy 12-28-2012 06:37 AM

I have a good collection of striped fabric. I think they are very handy to have.
