They used them!!!!
I'm thrilled to say that a number of my quilts were used this past week for a family reunion, from covering picnic tables to throwing on the ground for supper and fireworks. There was some oohing and awing and concern that they would get dirty (heaven forbid) but I am so glad to see them used. Whether on a picnic table, the ground or wrapped around someone, that's what it is all about for me. The delicate ones I keep home but most are for general use and I love seeing them used!

All of my quilts for family are to be used. I have one heirloom quilt from my grandmother and it is never used, just kept safe. It's never been used so what is the point? I don't want my family to feel that way about my quilts. If they wear out after I'm gone then hopefully one of them will take up quilting to replace them for their kids.

I just made a string quilt for my nephew and his wife to be used as a picnic quilt. I really hope that they use it for what it is intended. Delivered it yesterday at her place of work. The receptionist there said, "A picnic quilt...put it on the ground?? I don't think so!" Thought that was funny.

Nothing thrills me more than to see my quilts used! I make alot of baby quilts and many of them I've never seen again.
That's the BEST type of compliment!
this makes me smile!! i love seeing quilts used. i hate when i give someone a quilt and they tell me "ooh, i'll never use it". well, heck then, give it back and i'll give it to someone who will!

I agree - love for my quilts to be used - and I always tell them when I give it as a gift.
Yes, I agree. I encourage people to use them. Some of my grandmothers quilts were put away and never used and no one ever saw them till she was gone. I want the ones I make to be loved and used.
What a special family reunion for you. |
Good news! I make all my quilts to be used too. It really irks me to see my quilts put away. I tell all my family to use them.
I tell my family that the saddest thing is a quilt sitting on a shelf. Happily, they use their quilts.
I use my quilts and I want them to be used.
Now this is my vision for my quilts! We use them and wash them and sit on them and wear them and cuddle with them and warm ourselves with them and lay on them and tack them to a wall and spread them on the tables and under a childs car seat in our car and folded in the back seat of our van to grab quickly in order to cover my face and comfort me when going up and down the mountains on vacation. Yes, they get used!
Glad your quilts were used and enjoyed by everyone. I was so happy to see at a recent family gathering that my nieces all had the quilts I made for their children in the kid's strollers, they are being used and that's wonderful.
what a happy thing!! I love to see my quilts used..My favorite was seeing 2 of my grandsons dragging them around the house and refusing to go to bed without them!
Awesome!! I like certain ones of mine to be "loved" too. Happy 4th.
I really don't want mine used for a dog bed!
That's wonderful, they should be used. We only live once, use the quilts, burn the candles, eat off the fine china!
So cool, glad they are being used.
All my grandchildren loved their quilts to pieces........not only is that the ultimate compliment, but now that they are almost adults it gives me good reason to make them each another one. They don't want to give up the first ones, so am salvaging enough of each one to make them wall hangings.
Very cool....a huge compliment. I agree with Trif....live a full life and use all of the beautiful things you have.
How special to have the quilts used at the reunion. They ARE washable :) :) :)
It's a compliment to a quilter to have the quilts used. Have made a few that I know are not being used and it makes you kinda sad.
How nice you were able to see them being used. I love it when I see one I have made being used.
That's the nicest compliment you can receive.
My greatest compliment was when I made a quilt for my pastor's daughter and she came to me a year later and said that she wanted one for her other son who was born a year and a half later. She said the first son drags his around and refuse to go to sleep without it. Also when she posts pictures of him, he is laying on it, wrapped up in it etc. So since it is being loved , I made one for her other son tooand I know that its being used.
Same here .tell them use them ,there is always more where that one came from. And they are made to use. joyce j
Me too use them
I have my quilts that I make for the family long armed quilted planning on them using them. I have some foe me that I use and then I have others I never want to wash. I have a double one that I hand quilted and I don't want that one used.
I think it's the greatest compliment to go to a family member's home and see their children cuddled up, dragging around behind them or fall asleep in their crib/cradle/stroller in one of my quilts - it would be a shame to have something made with such love and care just sitting on a shelf in a dark closet
I like for mine to be used too! I even enclose laundering tips when gifting.
I made a grandmother's flower garden paper pieced quilt for my mother and she put it in a drawer because 'It's too good to be used' :( but after she died my son took it and wore it out over the next 18 years. :)
I love my quilts being used too. My sister was the recipient of one of my first quilts, seams weren't perfect, it really was a mess. She lived in Biloxi, Ms and when Hurricane Katrina came she took everything - house, possessions, everything. One of the few things my sister found was her quilt - this ugly thing. She washed and it was like new. But being a sister, she reminds me of that quilt mess when she can. But I was needing to get a picture of this quilt mess for my website to show everyone starts off rough and she hemmed and hawed around, finally I guessed she had made the dogs a bed with it and she said yes. So I can say it is being used, just not like I would have (or maybe I would). hmmm?
How gratifying! I also feel great when I see someone using the quilt I gave them.
I like to see quilts used on the bed, but really hate to see them used when moving furniture or abused. Love the grandchildren usings theirs.
So happy for you!! If I didn't want the quilts used that I made I wouldn't have given them to someone. They can stay in my dark closet just as easy as theirs. If they are put away I kind of feel like the receiver didn't like it so it's going to be put away like any other unliked gift.

I completely agree, it thrills me if someone uses a quilt I made. Even if it's for the dog!

That is exactly my feeling, I get a thrill from seeing my quilts at a picnic! I have no artisitc ability but seeing someone sitting on my quilt at a picnic is love for me. One of my favorite photos (& my daughter's) is of toddler granddaughter & her dad lying on a colorful scrap quilt at a beach, that quilt is at least 20 yrs old & still going strong. |
Always gratifying when a gift is loved enough to be used. Great!!
