Thank you for all the responses - my new quest to try some of these ideas. I just can't work with the metal silver ones and purchased an open adjustable and a leather. Will keep working with them they just feel so weird right now.

purchsed two more yesterday and the dots. Found a small leather that works perfectly and the rubber one with the metal tip and dots. Thank you all for helping me.

I buy a cheap metal one and then hit the the side of it with a hammer to make the opening oval. It fits the shape of the finger and feels comfortable, best fit ever. No one's finger is round, it's oval shaped.

I use a metal thimble that has a very short little wall on the end of it. Keeps your needle from sliding off when you press it thru the fabric.

I use Roxann's Thimble. There are sizes available to fit your finger.
