One thing on my LIST of to dos is Prairie Points. So fetching, so flirtatious. There's a new tut on an existing website allpeoplequilt which details how to make an outer border of Prairie Points, but they are all facing toward the center of the quilt...
http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/projec...-points_8.html So, fellow QB members, what's the deal? Wherefore dost thine Prairie Points point? Innies or Outies? Help me on this... |
I didn't know there were innies until you showed this.
I like them pointing in on inner borders and out on the outer ones :D:D:D
Hmmm, It's pretty, but, I would find myself trying to flip them out  I like outies! Well inies if it's inside the quilt.
I think they look nice either way, depends on the quilt.
I agree with Amma. Kind of depends where they are on the quilt.

Working on one now and mine will point out.

When it comes to quilting, anything goes!
i like them both ways it just depends on the quilt and which direction works
I bought a book especially for prairie points that used ONE piece of material that you marked and folded and got a whole row of perfect ones! Not sure now where it ended up. my mom always had hers pointing out she sewed to edge of top (facing in) and turned hers "pillow case style" and then tied quilt- they ended up going out

I perfer the outies, although I've never done them myself; I'm always impressed when I see them.
I put some on a very small quilt, but not at the outside edge. I couldn't figure out how to make them point out, so I didn't do any with the binding. Can anyone explain it to me, please? Thanks!!
I like innies, just like belly buttons!

My points poke out. Then I recently finished a quilt that I used them as an inner border.

Sometimes I wonder where my brain is... I have a set of pillowcases with innies where the little accent strip is. I love the innies on these, not sure about quilts--maybe some day.

The one I made was an outie on the outside border, but I really like how the innies make an inside border look.

This is a tutorial for continuous prarie points. Much easier, faster, and looks better than individual ones. I love it.... innies or outies!!!! |
If you sewed the binding on and then turned it completely to the back, wouldn't that make them outies? Just a thought. I like them in, and I would be afraid that they would be all bent up after you wash them.

Innies for inner borders.....outies for the outer edge! But I've never made them myself, just admired others who did!
I believe Harriet Hargrove in one of her books (don't have my books with me) she teaches how to make Prairie Points out of one piece of fabric. You may only do this if your Points are all the same fabric. It is too cool. I love it.
I have never tried making the prairie points-but love the look it gives to quilts.
I wondered what was wrong with that quilt the first time I saw it. Didn't bother to look close enough. If I wanted them pointed in I think I'd just border with triangles. That's a lot of fabric to waste. IMHO

Isn't fun how when you get an idea it just comes up here to help you along? :) |
Which ever way you want them to point! It's your quilt!
Would it work to put the outies on at the same time you apply the binding to the front?
I've never seen innies before, only outies.

Ricky Tims does a great video on one-seam prarie points. They go fast in making!

i always thought they were outies, learned something new!!
I hadn't even seen them point inward until I read this post. This is the way I do mine; http://patchworkunderground.com/blog...oints-tutorial

These are great, I think it depends on the blocks and settings whether inside PPs or outside would look best. These innies are really charming too.
It is on my to do list - will bookmark the link - thank you

I did one on a queen size, but only on 2 sides. I made them from one piece of fabric, but used fabrics left over from "frame" around pictures on the quilt.
I think I posted a picture when I first joined. |
It took me a while to get the hang of prairie points. I just could not get my head wrapped around the way to do it.I watched Mom do it, She tried talking me through doing them, nothing worked. I finally stayed up late working after everyone was in bed and decided that those points were not gonna get the best of me. It took me 3 hours but I learned. They make great borders once you learn how.I firgured out that I was thinking about the steps of doing them too hard. When I stopped thinking so hard about getting them perfect, I got them right.

I love doing prairie points. I've made several baby quilts like the picture shown and they always turn out nice. I'm looking forward to adding it to patterns that don't call for it in the future, as an added attraction.
I have always made mine go out. I put them on a round tablecloth, On pillow cases. Also made a set big enought for the outer edge of a queen quilt. Had a drawing for them at our quilting group. My GD won them and has never used them. They make an interesting edge for anything. I even saw them on tea towels.
The only time I've used them was on a baby quilt and I had them between the body of the quilt and the border and they were outties.
