This is a nice memory for me as well. Mom rolled all the scraps in a bundle with the smaller pieces in the center and tied with a piece of selvedge. She stored them in a basket that sat on the base of the treadle machine. My sisters and I would rummage through the baskets, choosing fabrics to make barbie clothes and doll blankets. Such a happy memory!

I do this roll up and tie with a left over piece with my leftovers. I have a box of them that are just waiting for the right time to get them all out and "make something".

For the longest time there was a big box full of grandmas scraps in the cellar that I use to go through when little. When I went to college I think mom really cleaned house because that box and a lot of my personal thins ( roller skates, dolls etc) disappeared

maviskw, I guess I better go through some of my scraps and take out the safety pins and the rubber bands I have used to keep same color/size left overs, and just tie them together, thanks for the advice.

I remember my Mother saving all these. She would make rugs out of them.

My Mom did the same thing with left over fabric from clothes, those wrapped and tied bundles. But she did use them in her scrap quilts. Had for gotten about those.

Yes, my Mom also did this, and as I began sewing garments I did also. We kept them in case a garment needed mending. Later on when we were sewing with all the double knits, I passed the bundles on to another lady who quilted at that time, She made and gave me a tied quilt with all the scraps, which I still have. This all brings back great memories.

I inherited my aunt's bundles recently when she found out I was making quilts. Now what to do with them?? Any suggestions??

We saved them and sent them to my paternal grandmother, who made wonderful patchwork quilts. It was fun finding our dress. blouse or skirt fabric in a quilt top. I still have a couple of these, old, worn, loved quilts and I am over 80 years old! What a great memory jogger these are.

I'm not sure my mom rolled up the remnants but she did use them all in crocheted rugs. I still use one in my laundry room and it has been used for 20 years.
