Thank you, was wondering if you can get what you need out of the four blocks (2 solid, 2 print) and it looks like you can. Cannot wait to try it.

finch 06-02-2010 06:26 AM

Yes,the four blocks are sewn together to make one 8 1/4m inch block.

Correction..I meant to say one 8 1/4 inch block

Questions:

1) After the four light/dark units are sewn together, each of them is approximately 4.5 x 5 inches?

2) When I make the "pinwheel" - I line up the seams in the middle and the outside edges will be uneven?

3) I trim the sewn block to the proper size after it's assembled?

I noticed you are using squares with pinked edges. How/where do you make the seams? (I guess the "how" is - with a sewing machine, duh!) I don't know exactly how to word the question - how far from the edge of the pinking do you sew? I can never decide if the outermost V or the inner V or the middle of the V's is what to count as the "edge" of the fabric.

Lay the four sections out and after yousew the white side to the printed side, you cut 1/2 inch off the top.You do this to each one before you sew all four of them together. Then after you get all 4 of them formed to make a block, you cut that block down to 8 1/4 inches. You sew the top two together and then the bottom two together and then you lay them face down on each other and sew straight across to join them together.Like a four patch.I just line them up and sew 1/4 inch seams even though they are crimped on the edges. I just set my pressure foot down and sew where the 1/4 inch seam is. Hope this helps. If not ask me again.

Each little square will be 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches after you trim that 1/2 inch off the top of each one.

Why are they trimmed to 8-1/4 inch blocks? instead of leaving them at 8-1/2 inch blocks?

Because that's what the pattern says?

(I'm very "literal" when it comes to reading patterns. Which is why I'm a good "tester" for them.)
