Those wonderful empty tissue boxes
3 Attachment(s)
I have found a way to tame the all-over-the-floor or knoted-in the-container roll of cut binding. Enter the wonderful empty kleenex box. Roll the cut binding in a loose roll and put it in a kleenex box and let it feed out of the opening. Works great.

Sew Smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just went into the bathroom and snagged the 2-3 tissues from empty box and tucked it on the shelf in my sewing room. I usually put the roll in my lap and depending on what I am wearing it moves ok, but usually ends up on the floor, I roll over it with my chair, the dog or cat pounce on it.

Clever! Last quilt I did I rolled the binding around an empty toilet paper roll!!!

I used one for a small ball of yarn tonight for knitting. Opened the box on the side, put the yarn inside and glued box. Works great!

What clever ideas! When I think of all the tissue boxes I've tossed into the recycle bin ... :-)

I use them to store plastic bags in various rooms for a number of uses. It is also a good place to store plastic bags cut into plarn (plastic yarn). Also makes a great thread repository sitting or hanging close by your machine or cutting table. Put a small hole in the bottom of the box, hang a hook in an appropriate spot and you have a convenient trash receptacle.

Great ideas ladies! Can't wait to empty a box now! When I was a kid, I used to cover empty kleenex boxes and use them in my room for various things...forgot all about that. Wonder how much more I've forgotten...LOL,LOL

We all have colds here, lingering (3 of us). Threw out 3 boxes just in the last week. Will save the next one.
Thanks for all the great (free) ideas. |
Super idea....thanks!

I love it! Thank you dear Quiltingboard Friends! This is a fantastic idea.

I use them for plastic bags. I also tape one of the square ones to the platform my sewing machine sits on. The cat likes to 'play' with stuff that is on the platform, and with the clear plexiglass, she can see a lot. She takes stuff or knocks them off into the wastebasket never to be seen again. I have lost too many seam rippers, buttons, skewers, etc., and know that they went into the wastebasket. So... I tape a small box to the edge of the platform, and have found the said above list in the box. Without the box... in the trash.

I like all the ideas for using the empty kleenex boxes.
As far as binding goes, I use an empty toilet paper roll. I saw this little thing on a website where you roll the binding around and put it around your neck. When I press my binding, I tape one end to the empty toilet paper tube and keep winding it and secure with a straight pin. When I am ready to put the binding on, I put a string/ribbon through the tube and place it around my neck. It comes off the roll perfectly. The only thing to remember is when you make your string to go around your neck to make it long enough to get it off or you are attached to your quilt until finished. Had this happen to me the first time I did it. |
Great ideas, one and all! Thanks!!
|
Some are just too pretty to throw away. Thanks for all the suggestions for use.
|
What super ideas for recycling otherwise useless throw-aways.
|
After I iron my binding I put it on a thread spool. Then use a shoe string to tye it around my neck. Keeps in were I need it. But the tissue box would work even better for a king size quilt binding. Thanks for this tip.
