Funny! I was just considering asking the same question. I only buy dark cream color, and medium and dark "mushroom" colors. Sometimes I'll be sewing a light color fabric to a medium color fabric and realize I'm using a dark thread, but I never seem to take the time to change thread. With all the different colors and hues that go into one quilt, it seems changing the thread to match the fabrics would be maddening. I sure hope I don't regret this shortcut someday.

I piece with 50w cream color.
Or black for dark colors.

On my LA I use 40w varigated or cream

You should be in Perth!!! The weather was darn right balmy yesterday!!!!I do exactly as you but prefer beige and dark grey for piecing. Do you use cotton or poly for LA?

I usually use a light grey for my piecing. It seems to work for every color fabric.

I use King Tut or Superior.
I only have one come of poly perfect.
It's a thicker thread.
I've only used it a few times.

What's your choice?

I always use a color that blends with the blocks, it could be almost any color. I love brights, so neutrals just don't always work. I now use 80 weight Decobob by Wonderfil for piecing, it simply dissapers in a seam and doesn't add any bulk.

I get my LA thread from a company in Canada, used the cotton only but tried the poly this last time (more choice of colors) cotton is way nicer. Company is Can sew. Prices are very reasonable.

Stick with the neutrals. The thread, when piecing, isn't supposed to show anyway!

I buy white, a med tan, and a dark gray. These colors can be used for most quilts. I don't think theres any reason to buy a lot of colored threads to match each fabric color.
Happy New Year!
