Do you use the thread cutter on your machine? I have tried to use mine a few times and its just a pain in the @**. Its in the back and I have to hunt for it. Its faster to grab the scissors. Is it just me? :?
|
No mine is in the front by the bobbin but it really is useless, quicker just to use the scissors!
|
Occasionally - I like my threads clipped a bit closer so usually use scissors.
|
The one on my machine (Kenmore) is on the left hand side and it's great! When you pull your fabric out and towards you, it clips the threads almost right to the fabric.
|
Mine is on the front of my Brother machine. I love it!

Use mine all the time...its in the back, left hand side and works well...

I don't have one so needless to say I don't use it.
|
My hands automatically go for it to cut the thread. If I am not at my regular machine I reach for it at the same spot and makes me crazy not to find it.
|
No. Mine, too, is in the back and it's too awkward to reach. It's easier to grab scissors.
|
Glad its not just me! :-)
|
When I first learned to sew in school, I used it. But now, no way.

Mine is on the left side, and I use it all the time. on my new Brother

I bought a stick on cutter. Really small and works great. I can put it anywhere I like it best. I think I bought one at JoAnns. Here is what it looks like:

I have never used it---my scissors are right there and I just grab them.
|
I cannot imagine going back to cutting threads. I too have a Janome and I use the knee lift and the cutter almost exclusively. I LOVE my machine's features.
|
Mine have never worked well, it seems like they are never sharp enough. I always end up recutting them with scissors.

I misunderstood  To use the cutter on my Janome you push the button, and it cuts the thread. (Auto thread cutter button) |
Found a really good use for my auto thread cutter button the other day. Was quilting a lap quilt, did something dumb, and jammed up the thread -- on the bottom side of the quilt. Tugging at the quilt didn't help and I couldn't get under the quilt to use scissors. What a mess. Thread cutter to the rescue! One snip and I was able to get the quilt out from under the needle.
Question - the cutter leaves the bobbin thread just long enough to peek out from the throat plate. How do you "grab" the bobbin thread, either before inserting the quilt under the needle or after, to bring the bobbin thread to the top before sewing? If I don't do that, the thread gets all jammed. |
You push the needle up/down button the needle will stay down, now push up/down, and the needle will come up with the bobbin thread, that is how my Janome 6600p, and 1600p works, hope this helped.

Thanks, I'll try that! Still getting used to this new machine.

Are you referring to the automatic thread cutter, which has a button to push, or a tiny hook with an even smaller razor blade in it that usually is on the left side of the machine?
The member with the Janome 6600 has only a button to push and all threads are automatically cut..no tails...no wild threads on your clothes, furniture and husband... I love my 6600 and the main reason is the thread cutter for piecing. But if you need a convenient manual cutter, I beleive they sell them to stick on the side of your machine. Might be worth a look see. If you are like me, I hate having to pickup and put down scissors. I have put nicks and scratches in my previous machines with my scissors. Di in TX |

.... If you are like me, I hate having to pickup and put down scissors. I have put nicks and scratches in my previous machines with my scissors. Di in TX I know what you mean about picking up the scissors but its SO automatic now, I don't even think about ... unless my small scissors, that I use for thread cutting, are somewhere else in my sewing room. :-( Habits are hard to break! |

Sewsweet, I have the Elna which is similar to the 6600, and my automatic thread cutter cuts the bobbin thread so short that the top thread won't even pick up the bobbin thread. Do you ever have this problem? |

I have one on my new Pfaff Grandquilter. Absolutely love it! Wish there was one on my 10 year old Bernina. I've noticed that when using the thread cutter I don't un-thread the needle when I start sewing the next piece. That's a constant problem with the Bernina. Seems to waste a lot of thread.

I have a Janome 6500 and the thread cutter is a pain. When I use it and then start to sew again, the thread knots up at the back of my fabric and I have to use the seam ripper to pull it out. I have spoke to the president of Janome Canada and he can't seem to give me an answer as to why it does it or how I can fix the problem, so it is easier not to use it. And when I spoke to the store where I bought it and she used the thread cutter on her 6600, it did the same thing.
|
It's all what you get used to!

Hi- I have two Viking embroidery machines. The thread cutter is activated via a button on the front of the machine over a bit and to the left of the needle. I find it a "must have" but then I am a "sewing snob" and admit it! LOL!/ Lissa

Love that automatic thread cutter on my 6600 and the differential feed and the knee lift. I have three machines with the automatic knee lift--1630, Janome 10K and 6600. Now it's a pain the the ### to use a mchine with an automatic lift. Anned |
my machine does not have one, so i bought a tiny stick on one and put it on the left hand side of the machine, i use it all the time, have had it a long time, dont' remember where i got it.

My Viking does not have a thread cutter. But my Pfaff GrandQuilter does and I use it all the time. That machine sits on a frame and the cutter makes life so much easier.

Have you always had this problem with your cutter? Do you ever take off the needle plate and clean out all the fuzzzzzz that get's in there, the fuzz gets under the bobbin holder, feed dog, and auto thread cutter mechanism. I have a small brush I use, along with air in a can, and vacuum. I would try cleaning it, and if that wont help take it to the shop if you can. |
I hae a brother with knee lift and thread cutter can't live wihout it. You know it is amazing how we get spoiled to the little things in life. I have a Janome gold that does not have these features and I hardly use it.
