Good idea to separate the numerous threads for a smocking machine. I bought a plastic compartment tray for this purpose but haven't tried it yet.

Great idea! I use school and office supplies for my sewing room all the time but this is a new one for me. 'Scuse me, gotta go to Walmart now...
Great idea! I use these same boxes every day for quilting needs. One has safty pins, one has to go things when I'm traveling. Your idea is great, guess I'll be going to Walmart for more. Thank you for the idea.
Such a good idea. I always have a spool of thread sitting around here and there for whatever hand work I am doing and always have to hunt for it when I go to sew. This would keep it all together.

You should market your idea. You could be one of the next best inventors for the quilt industry!
If all the spools unwrap in the same direction one may rub against its neighbor and cause it to unwrap and result in a bird's nest inside the box. Alternate the direction of the spools and, when you yank a length of the one you want, if it contacts its neighbors it will cause them to rewind rather than unwind.
Omigosh, that's brilliant. And just in the nick of time... all the stores have a good stock of pencil boxes for the new school year.

great idea!

great for a road trip!

Quilters are so clever!!
Great idea. Another reason why I love this board.
Perfect for my car. It could also contain a little pair of scissors, safety pins, and maybe a few colored or clear buttons. I like that it is flat and easy to store. Sew velcro onto your chair tv channel changer holder and glue other half to bottom of pencil holder so it can be stabilized on the chair's arm.
OK...I am trying all of these things!
Great idea!!! Thanks for sharing :-)
Very clever idea.
what a wonderful idea thanks

Just another confirmation of what I've long known: Quilters are among the brightest, most engaging, surprisingly resourceful people I know. You go, Girl!

great idea!

Quilters are always thinking out of the box. Fantastic idea, inexpensive and now you have more money for fabric.

Thank you Opal Jane for sharing your brilliant idea with us. Thanks also to Cheshirecatquilter and Lab55 for your suggestions! |
Great idea! I'm going to have to get one.
I just bought two of those at walmart for my sewing stuff. Can't beat the price the smaller one was 49 cents and the larger was 99 cents. I plan on putting my presser feet and pieces for my sewing machine in the small one (I don't like the storage in the base that pulls out, too messy)
The larger pencil box will become a small sewing kit within a kit of my guild sewing supplies. Rotary cutters and all. I also pack my cosmetics and small shampoo/conditioner and hair stuff in one larger one when I go on trips. I keeps things from getting crushed and oozing out. :-) Now I know another use for these great little cheapies. Thanks! |
great idea!

I like those because I can stick my thimblepads to the outside and small handwork stuff inside. Love the thread idea. Gotta dig out my indian hole punch now.

Thanks for sharing your neat idea.

Great idea!

Great idea. I'm currently working on an applique that uses several colors of thread. That would be an excellent solution and make my sewing so much easier! Thanks for the idea.
What a clever idea. Thank you

Well done girl. Super kool idea. (Hitting my head saying why didn't I think of that). Thanks for sharing. BrendaK

I have been using these boxes for thread storage
since last yar when School Suppliles went on sale. They are wonderful. J J |
What a great idea when using multiple threads. For a single spool just use an empty pill jar, poke a hole in the lid, and there you are -- something you'd just throw away being recycled.
What a great idea. I am going to use this.
Awesome idea! I use old prescription bottles with a hole in the lid. Then I insert a smidgen of fabric with the needle and about 5 pins in it and a pair of fold-up scissors.
I use oold pill bottles for the broken bent needles, dulled machine needles....anything sharp that I don't want to "discover" in the trash. When its full, on to the next one!
That's a great idea. I hate fighting that spool of thread. Now I've just got to buy me a pencil box!
