Finally I went in and bought the remaining Gutterman thread. This basket is 16" X 24" and better than half full. I spent $100 total for $1000 worth of thread! |
That is a super deal! I wish I could catch a sale like that. Congrats!!

When a local quilt shop was sold off at auction I went to the auction and bought all the thread on the thread cabnit for 36 dollars. Then I bought all the patterns that were there for $1 and all the buttons for $20. I also brought home many books and hundreds of bolts of fabric. I spent a total of $2000 and had to rent a truck to bring it and all the display cases home with me. They never had any going out of business sale because they were divorcing and she wanted to keep the quilt shop. Husband would not agree and the judge ordered the shop sold at auction. The court officer had the shop locked up until the sale and the sale took all day. I had my 9 month old grandson in a stroller and he was really good. Never caused any problems. He even bid on some of the fabric for me. He was watching when they were selling everything in a corner that had a couple dozen bolts of kiddy prints. He grabbed my number out of my hand and started bidding on the bolts. The auctioneer thought it was cute and kept saying that the young man in the stroller has the bid. It ended with $3.00 a bolt. When the auctioneer asked how many of the bolts he wanted he said ALL. The auctioneer laughed and said now we have to do it for real. My grandson yelled that he already bought them and the auctioneer looked over to me and I said he bid and I'll pay and the guy said ok and that was how I ended up with 2 dozen bolts of kiddy fabric that were brand new bolts. Most everything was sold in my shop but I still have the pictures of him bidding at the auction.
