i don't have much thread--mostly use white, natural, gray or black and just have 3 quart canning jars and separate by color into those.

I have those peg things (can't think of the name) with the pegs that hold a lot. They are on the wall, easily seen but out of sunlight. Works great. I think JAF carries them.

My cotton thread is on the wood thread racks on a shelf since I don't have a lot of that kind of thread. For my embroidery thread I have an Omar cabinet from Ikea. But then I have so many more of the embroidery than the cotton thread. I tried to create a plastic cover for it to keep the dust off the thread, but it was more trouble than it was worth.

I keep my thread in large Mason jars. Darks, lights & cream/gray (which I use most of the time).
It works for me & I like being able to see what I'm running low on. |
I have as much thread as fabric. I keep my thread in a roll arounds with lots of drawers.

Oh, I should add that I only keep my regular sewing thread on the racks. I have several plastic boxes that I got when I didn't some work for Sulky at the Quilt Festival that have all my decorative thread in them.

I bid on an antique Coats 4 drawer chest a few years ago at an auction... I recently had it refinished and now it sits on a dresser in my sewing room.

Most of mine are stored in the matchbox car boxes; at the time i got them they were cheap; like 2.97 or something like that. I don't even know if they still make them; fishing tackle boxes work well to and some are similar to the matchbox boxes - depending on which one you get; there are many to choose from to fit your needs. I also have some on a thread carousel my bil made for me. And some on the open thread racks. I made dust covers for them to keep the air and light from them.

I have three machines that use three different bobbins. Sometimes I'll use the same thread in all three machines. If I separate a bobbin from the spool, I can never match them up again. Therefore, I put thread and bobbins in a zip lock bag and put them in a drawer.
