I just bought 3 more of JoAnn's clear plastic covered thread boxes. At half price less a 20% coupon, l can now see all my spools and keep them dust free.

I tried one of these first but the spools kept popping out!!

This is the NEWEST thing..since most thread now comes on the skinny spools!
These were found at Lowes, but I also found a nice one at Atwoods! Just measure your thread spools L and W so you know they will lie flat or even stand(mini cones).
Great for keeping different threads separate! YOu know, cotton, poly, silk, etc...

They do sell one at Joanns, but it is flimsy, the back is wide open because they expect you to mount it to the wall...and it cost more than these hardware ones!

I got my storage at Sportsman whse. Holds the small cones perfect. 32 in a box..

I also put my spools of thread in snack size plastic bags along with their matching bobbins. I use ponytail cloth elastic holders to fasten around each bobbin to secure the thread. Neat little packages. Now, I don't have a ton of threads, so my supply can stay relatively neat and colors easy to find.The thread packages are stored in a sewing/thread cabinet that I inherited.
This works for me, so far!

While many of you have large stashes of fabric, my 'problem' seems to be thread. I still have thread on wooden spools that I purchased myself years ago.:) I also have a lot I bought for 9-25 cents when I worked for a fabric store that was discontinuing Moinlyke. A great quality thread for clothing and home dec sewing that I could not resist. Then came the embroidery machine. I seem to attract large collections of these with the sure and certain knowledge that I cannot possibly live long enough to use it all (or even make a dent).

Have you noticed, I have yet to mention quilting? At least I have restricted myself to buying for specific projects, except for plenty of neutrals of course. ;)

All that said, I want you to know how much I appreciate the many ideas for storage!!
