I just "Organized" my thread by color in a clear plastic box from Joann's when they were 75% off in price. Now, how long they will stay organized is another matter. :)

I have plastic drawer units I bought at Walmart. 2" deep drawers hold spools laying down and organized by color. 6" deep drawers hold cones standing up. I have them under my sewing table. I have more of these drawers in the closet with FQs and scraps in them. The units come in 3 or 5 drawer units (taller ones have wheels) and they snap apart so I arrange them the way I need. I find these to be much less costly than the organizers that JoAnns sells.

I have some Artbin satchels with pins for some of my threads, but I have to find something larger for cone size.

I have a standing plastic drawer unit with the shallow drawers that I have my regular spools in by color families. I have one of the larger plastic 3 drawer units under my longarm machine with that thread in those drawers, needles and other accessories in the top drawer. the top of the unit holds pins, bobbins and easy to get to items at hand.
One other note that may be helpful to someone is that we have started using SoFine and love it but the colors are so close that we wrote the color # on our bobbin to avoid confusion.

I use the plastic cases found in the bead department at Hobby Lobby 1/5th the price of the thread holders and made the same way, the thread lays down, you can see the color, the lid snaps down.

Love the idea using the air tight jars to display your thread, going to try that

I use them too. However, I bought some heavy weight clear plastic, tacked it to the back and layered it over the thread. I can still see the spools and it stays clean. It is easy to dust the plastic. (providing I get into the mood to dust)

I use the plastic thread storage boxes from JoAnn's. Got them when they were 50% off. they also have them for cone thread. They are stacked on a shelf and I can see immediately which thread I need to use. I love them. I used to have a huge wall rack but it got so dusty and also the thread faded a little so I gave it away.
