I have an old dresser drawer with big drawers in it. The drawers are about 10in. deep. I had some recycled tubs that had candy in them (about 8X10X8"). I could fit 8 tubs in one drawer. Each tub has a variety of one color. They are real easy to see at a glance and I didn't have to spend any money on storage bins. Love it!

I have 6 drawer plastic bins on wheels that I got from Office Depot. I use plastic grids that I cut to make dividers so the spools stay in rows. It is far to dusty here in NW Texas to have spools out in the open.

I have a beautiful thread storage unit ! My friend had an old CD cabinet...another friend measured the spaces & made inserts with pegs long enough & spaced properly for different spools..
What do you think?? |
I have a small three drawer plastic bin about 12-14" high that I put my thread in. I try to organize it by color and my special rayon thread in the bottom drawer and it seems to work for me. It doesn't take up much room and helps keep the threads from getting all tangled up.

I keep my spools of cotton in plastic storage boxes, keeps them tidy and dust free. I love the look of the wooden spool stands on the walls but hate the thought of all the dust that would end up covering them as I tend to use just neutrals and only use coloured thread on occassion.

Mine are in plastic storage bins with lids - shoe box size. I lay the spools side down so I can see the colors. I have several boxes and they are organized by color.

I store mine in plastic cases I bought from Keepsake Quilter. I now have 3. One for piecing thread, one for FMQ and "glitzy" thread and one for hand quilting thread. :D

I bought plastic containers in the hardware department at Menards. I believe they are supposed to be for screws, nails, etc. But I wanted a container that was 3 inches tall so that my spools could stand upright and these work perfectly. I believe they are 3 1/2 inches high and have dividers in them. I buy my thread from Connecting Threads and these containers work great; you can store about 25-30 spools of thread in each.
