This is what I prefer to use, also. I have used cheap acrylic (Sweetheart) yarn but I didn't like it. Perle cotton works best for me and it shrinks a little when you wash the quilt making the knot super tight so no worries about it coming undone.

Some embroidery floss bleeds so test it first.

OK i will. =)

i like cotton crochet thread or pretty punch embroidery yarn.Put a drop of fray check or fray block on the knot and it will never come undone.have not replaced in any ties in the ones I tied 25 years ago!

I like to use ribbon if it is for a girl/woman even though it sometimes doesn't stay tied in the bow. I double knot it before tying the bow so that part stays just fine even with the satin ribbon.

Its all a matter of personal preference either on your part or ob the part of the intended recipient.

My granny tied all of her quilts with knitting yarn. I have one of them she did when she was first married at 14. I'm 62, so it's pretty old!! LOL!

I use embroidery floss, too. Use a surgeons knoe to tie it and it won't work loose.

I didn't know they still made Pretty Punch, my sister quit selling it when they sold the company and started making the yarn differently. She gave me all her stash as a dealer. Thanks for the idea, I'd forgotten I still had it. That's what I'll use now.

Depending on the quilt, I use 6 strand embroidery floss, or 100% wool. I like the little "buttons" wool creates after washing the quilt!, and sometimes I"ll blend wool and embroidery floss to create a certain color effect...

I had a big stash I bought when a friend's mom died----will be sad when I run out! It is the best, and so many colors!

I have always used DMC embroidery thread, all 6 strands. I like it because I can match the colors to whichever square that I am tying but I did have some work themselves loose after washing the quilt, one time. Just make sure you do a good tight knot.
