Is your thread stash as large as you fabric stash? Mine sure isn't. I use a lot of white and basic colors.
I have more fabric, but I have alot of thread with just a little on the spool, and I am trying to use it up. Sometimes several of the same color.

I have lots of thread because I have several machines. I have about 400+ colors of embroidery thread alone. I use cones thread for the basic colors and then have about 100+ smaller spools for special projects in the past and future.
In mass, no.
But I confess that I like thread almost as much as fabric. |
Not even close.
Wow, I'd better get in the program. Need to start "stashing" thread. I tend to use neutral colors. Still getting used to all of this.
I, too, use natural or basic neutral colored threads.
I am a long arm quilter and I buy fabric to match my thread!
mmmmm... nope.
I confess I mostly just stick with white, tan, red, and black. |
no, my thread stash is not as big, but per quilt, one uses less thread than fabric. so, although my stash does not look large, it will probably last me a very long time :)
If we're counting embroidery floss? Bigger! Actually, it's probably bigger even without counting it. Oh, my aching head.
Not even close!!!
This brings up something I've been wondering, what to do with all those spools with just a little on them. I have a drawer full from when I was making clothes. I don't do enough hand quilting to use anything up.
No, but that is only because the spools take up less space than the fabric. DD said she can find any color thread and any piece of fabric she needs in my stash.
not even close. I tend to use a lot of neutrals
I don't think I will ever use it up as I got $600 worth thrown in for every machine that I bought. It will probably rot on the spools!
Yes, it's big, having sewn a lot of garments over the years. At least they are mostly the little spools...

No, but I now try to buy at least one spool of thread every time I buy a fat quarter or remnant so the thread stash is growing...
Nope - my thread stash is pretty small right now - will have to work on that lol
I have more fabric then I do thread. Matter of fact, I need to buy more thread soon. I have just been waiting for thread to come on sale.

Every Oct. I go to the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, CA so I can hit the "Superior Threads" booth in the merchants mall...where I purchase a ton of threads! The more you buy, the cheaper it is. I usually focus on buying colors I will use in projects for the coming year, plus, I buy at least one "just because" and later find a use for it! Buying at PIQF I save on postage, plus get a discount!
I have very few spools of thread (except for my machine embroidery thread). I use white, beige, or gray when piecing so seldom use any other color. I have just a few other colors for mending. I would rather spend $$ on fabric than thread.

Since you are on the subject of thread....
Is their really a difference in thread??Last month I was looking at buying a bernina and they told me to use only gutermens polyester. They stated it doesn't leave lint in your machine as the others do.Whats the scoop????? Thanks Mary |
I am devoted to Superior Threads and Aurifil - have hundreds of spools and cones
Much more fabric - but way too much threads |
My my thread far outweighs my fabric. I,too use basic colors and sometimes invisible for quilting.
I love thread, have several shades of every color, and I use it to.
I have been "collecting" threads for a few years...I find that I have a harder time using my GOOD threads than my good fabric..sigh
lol I have what was a CD holder as my thread holder, it has 10 shelves and umm I am not gonna tell ya how many I do have filled !LOL<GRIN>
I must admit, mine is larger than I would like it to be.
I'm afraid I have the thread addiction as much as the fabric addiction.
Right now I have more thread than stash. lol
Here's some ideas to use up bits of thread. Baste a quilt with it. Test tension with it. Use it when piecing a multi-colored quilt. Roll it on a little piece of paper, put it in your purse...voila - instant tooth floss! Or, roll into the worlds largest ball of thread. You cat will love that!
