I have 9" on my Janome and 10" on my Sapphire875. I have done kingsize on the Janome, it's not easy, alot of pushing, pulling, bunching and scrunching...but it can be done.

My Elna 7200 had 8.5" and I have done a double on that, I use the same method as Leah Day, push n shove  What I am pleased with is that my Singer Capri has quite a good throat space at 7.5" but I haven't done a lot of quilting on it, yet. When I have got a new foot pedal it will be interesting to see what I can manage on it.

Thanks everyone. I have 7" (just measured). I have done a very generous queen using the walking foot on this machine. I am going to try FMQ on another queen. I threw together a large quilt and decided to just learn how to FMQ on it. I don't expect it to turn out perfectly... just a big piece for alot of practice.

I don't have any problem with the 9" throat on my Juki 98Q. Love it!

I test drove a janome 1600p today, i measured 9" throat, they claim 9.5". Very nice solid free motion machine for $1000. (ouch!)

I have a viking sapphire which was around $1000 (maybe a little more) that has 10" and has plenty of space on the grace frame.

I have an Elna 7500 Quilting Queen with a 9.5 inch throat. A twin is the largest I've done, love my Elna!
